Has anyone had a gastroscopy?

I'm petrified Blush I've had surgeries, etc. but the idea of being awake and having something really scares me. I will opt for sedation, but their info on sedation hardly fills me with much hope and they sound quite negative about it! Has anyone had one?

Had one recently without sedation, because someone would've had to be with me after. I had the throat spray and was really nervous about it, but I shut my eyes and didn't looks at all.

The nurse also told me to concentrate on my breathing/meditate and it honestly really worked for me which was a surprise! was over really quickly.

I've had sedation and don't remember anything. No problems.

I’ve had 3. First time said I’d do without sedation 🤦‍♀️Stupid idea and once given sedation it was fine.
Second and third it was a doddle. Sedation, was vaguely aware of one part of it but was totally unconcerned ( and I’m a wimp) No throat pain afterwards, no after effects at all. Staff were lovely, they’re used to nervous patients so talk to them.

@Chevrotains I got midazolam and pethidine, I kept talking after the first syringe the second one knocked me out. I think i woke up an hour later. DH picked me up and drove me home and I’ve had a good snooze. Need to drink more now.
