No receipt - what are my rights when trying to return

Hello,

Last week I purchased a dress from a shop in a London station. The receipt machine wasn’t working so I had to get an e-receipt. The guy at the till didn’t speak English as his first language and seemed to struggle putting in my email to send me the e-receipt. I had to spell it out twice letter by letter before he confirmed he had written it down correctly.

As I had to catch a train I didn’t have time to check it had been sent through.

I have decided the dress isn’t really right for me and I’d like to return it but because the guy at the till entered my email incorrectly I never received the receipt.

Lesson learnt to always ask to see the email as it has been typed in. Is there any chance I can get a refund?

TIA

Do you have any other proof of purchase eg bank statement?

You'll have a better chance at the same shop

You might only be able to get an exchange for something else if you take it back with no proof of purchase, or they might refuse altogether. As said above if you paid with a card you could use the statement as proof.

If you have online banking they may accept this as proof of purchase. When it’s an online receipt I tend to ask to type in my email address myself as I have had the same issue in the past. Normally the staff automatically putting .com instead of .co.uk

Even though you didn't receive it, they might still have it in their sent items?

Thanks for the replies. I’ve had a look and yes, it does appear in my bank statement. Also as @villamariavintrapp says hopefully they have a sent folder if I can give them the date and time as shown on my bank statement. Fingers crossed they accept!
