How much do you vary what you eat for breakfast/lunch?

I have, in the past, had a shocking attitude toward food. I'm now in my 40s and trying to be more consistent and not swing between ultra healthy (but unsustainable) and junk (carb central). I've found a breakfast and lunch I enjoy, which is healthy, more protein based, keeps me full, also has carbs and fruit/veg. So now I am having it every day during the week. We have Hello Fresh four times a week (midweek) which is very veg based, then loosen up a bit at weekends. But DH thinks it's weird that I have the same thing every day. I think it helps me stay in a good food routine and doesn't cause me to overthink what I am having. So settle this argument for me, am I odd??

Nope. Not odd. I do the same.
I’ve had the same breakfast and lunch pretty much every day for ages. I lost over 3 stone and it works for me in terms of keeping hunger at bay, is easy to log on MFP and I enjoy it. I eat a few evening meals on rotation too -but that’s just for ease after a day at work.

I think in the 'olden days' this was probably super common, and probably still is in other places in the world.

I vary my lunches but not so much my breakfasts (cereal/toast/yoghurt and maybe pancakes at the weekends)

What's your daily lunch? (I'm nosy)

Ollybob · 06/08/2023 17:51

I have boiled egg and toast almost every day ( holiday/ run out of eggs being the exception)
Lunch is either pasta salad or toastie. Dinner varies but I tend to not have a wide selection of meals.
It's quite comforting have the same meal if it's one you like every day

I think this is quite normal. I will often eat greek salad at lunch and overnight oats for breakfast.

PlaceYourHands · 06/08/2023 17:52

Protein mousse with grapes, blueberries and strawberries. Then for lunch two protein thins (Aldi) with ham, lettuce, tomato and a tiny bit of salad cream.

I would have scrambled egg every day but I've got gallstones and this sets it off awfully!

I eat the same everyday for breakfast and lunch. I enjoy what I have - it is healthy and is helping me to lose weight. My evening meals vary but my breakfasts and lunches pretty much stay the same.
My breakfasts are hard boiled chopped up eggs with roasted peppers onions and mushrooms with a sprinkling of spice (every day seasoning or paprika or chilli) lunch is chicken with rice and/or veg with seasoning.
I love my meals!

Ventureintheslipstream · 06/08/2023 18:08

Pretty much the same for me too and I don't need to lose weight and never have, so it's not motivated by that.

Yoghurt, berries and oats/granola/nuts and seeds for breakfast. Very occasionally swap this for a croissant at the local cafe!

2 egg omelette with feta and spinach. Slice of homemade toast and a side salad for lunch. Piece of choc for pudding ALWAYS.

Try to inject variety in the evenings by regularly making new things.

gingercat02 · 06/08/2023 18:18

Breakfast: toast/porridge/overnight oats weekdays occ bacon/sausage sarnie at weekends
Lunch: at work box of salad (with pulses and tuna or feta or prawns, etc) and fruit or yog, at home boiled/poached eggs/beans/tinned spaghetti and toast, soup, salad, omelette, fruit/yog. So not much really

caringcarer · 06/08/2023 18:32

I like 2 scrambled eggs, 2 bacon, 1 sausage and 2 hash browns for breakfast. I eat it at about 10.30-11.00am so more of a brunch really.

MrsJBaptiste · 06/08/2023 18:36

Breakfast - don't eat it

Lunch - tuna or salami with cheese/crackers/grapes/tomatoes

Sometimes I have a cup a soup too, just to mix it up a bit! 😊

ifonly4 · 06/08/2023 18:42

Breakfast, one day a week toast, one day a week fruit and yogurt, there's three cereals on go generally and I just have whatever of them the other days.

Lunch can be leftovers, sandwich, toasted sandwich, soup, hummus dip with carrots/cucumber, something on toast, crackers with cheese, tomato and cucumber, salad with cheese, egg or omelette, fried egg on toast with mushrooms, one day a week we have jacket potato (DH won't have them for tea, but he'll accept one lunch a week!), occasionally apple and cheese

Riapia · 06/08/2023 19:27

Never.
Toast for breakfast.
Sandwich for lunch, ham or cheese.
Been the same since my teens.

BertieBotts · 06/08/2023 19:31

I need to do a single lunch because I can never think of what to have and I absolutely hate it. Worst meal ever. I don't mind eating the same thing ever day for breakfast, and I don't mind putting effort in for dinner.

Lunch is just mostly boring things.

PlaceYourHands · 06/08/2023 19:31

Ahhh it's not just me then! TBF, my Mum is a creature of habit and had the same tea (a buttered baguette filled with a packet of plain walkers crisps) every night for 18 months 😂

I go through phases. I'll eat the same thing for breakfast for months, then get bored, and ultimately find something else for the next few months.

Right now it's frozen blueberries microwaved for 1 minute, topped with Alpen and raw almonds and oat milk.

Before that was porridge with oat milk, topped with peach slices out of a big jar, drizzled with condensed milk.

Then a cooked breakfast on weekends (vegan full English, avocado toast, or banana pancakes).

Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket · 06/08/2023 20:03

I tend to have different stuff but think this is a good idea!

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 06/08/2023 20:40

Breakfast - toast and peanut/almond butter - sometimes with banana; weetabix or porridge with fruit; overnight oats with Greek yogurt and fruit

Lunch - soup and toast or jacket potato with various toppings

So I have different foods but not too much variety . I have a limited amount of foods I'll eat for evening meal too .

Floralnomad · 06/08/2023 20:42

I have a yoghurt for breakfast and no lunch , the only thing that changes is the variety and flavour of the yoghurt .

FatCatatPaddingtonStation · 06/08/2023 20:54

Yep! But tend to switch every 6 months or so.
I don’t eat breakfast every day but if I do it’s a smoothie - frozen raspberries, Greek yoghurt, porridge oats, nut butter, protein powder and water.

Lunch - salad in summer, often with avo and with a protein - quorn pieces, or hard boiled eggs, feta, that sort of thing. Homemade soup if cold, usual lentil and vegetable or minestrone.
I like my routine!

SirenSays · 06/08/2023 20:55

I couldn't eat the same thing every day. I'd get bored and be put off it for ages.

UsingChangeofName · 06/08/2023 22:08

I have the same thing for breakfast every day (except if I am abroad, on holiday), and have done for decades.
For 30 years I had the same thing (give or take) for lunch each weekday, as I just took my sandwiches to work - as did most people I worked with.
Now I wfh, I have a few more options,.
