PENDINE is ok. It’s a huge flat beach. Good parking and access. There’s nicer more interesting beaches around but access less easy if done of you are less able. . We only went as my mate was into car racing. I think there’s a visitor center about that fast car but I didn’t go. There’s a cafe too.

that neck of the woods is lovely. You’ll have a great time :)

It is indeed beautiful. We're from London and I'm blown away by the sense of space .

Aberglasney gardens and Dinefwr Park (NT) are near Llandeilo and nice to visit OP.

I’m not keen on Pendine personally ((but haven’t been for years) - prefer Pembrey for a big flat beach.

The Gower has some fab beaches and is not too far - Rhosilli and Three Cliffs.

Laugharne is pretty and you can get your Dylan Thomas fix. Narberth is a lovely town with great places to eat and from there you could go down to the beach at Saundersfoot. If you like gardens then the National Botanical Garden of Wales is also good.

ladyvimes · 06/08/2023 10:01

The Botanical gardens are good, Dan yr ogof, bit of a drive but st fagans near Cardiff is well worth a visit and free!

ScribblingPixie · 06/08/2023 10:05

Laugharne definitely. I don't know lots about Dylan Thomas but the poetry boards by the views that inspired him were lovely. Love the Botanical Gardens too with the Norman Foster glasshouse. I'd be off to Tenby too.

BestIsWest · 06/08/2023 10:15

Yes, Tenby for definite, especially if you’re going to Pembroke castle.

Pendine is a fab beach with warmer water as the water is very shallow for a long way. The downside is half the beach is also used as a rifle range for the army on occasion so there are signposts up everywhere regarding that.

Brilliant, thank you.
Prefer to have these personal recommendations.

Carreg Cennen castle is lovely and close to landeilo. We went there years ago but I still remember the cottage pie in the farm shop before trekking up to the castle. Take torches to explore the dungeons if I remember rightly.

Dinefor castle is also near llandelio and is national trust I think. That’s quite a lot of walking

I seem to remember my kids loved llanstephan beach (I think you have to go to Carmarthen and then take a little country road) you can’t swim there but you could get a little ferry across to ferryside opposite, or alternatively walk into the next bay and then get the path back and walk up to the castle. It needs nice weather but then you can see across to the Gower coast on a good day. I think there wasn’t much in way of food though. A fish and chip van and maybe a shop that did cream teas? Mansion House is a nice place to eat - we had small kids so didn’t go but my in laws did and I remember them saying how nice it was

this Was before covid and so I don’t know if this is all still accurate though

I grew up in the area. I would recommend driving a bit further to Amroth/Saundersfoot/Tenby rather than Pendine. You can stop at Laugharne on the way.
Amroth is my personal favourite but I think that's just because it is where I would sea swim most days and has a special place in my heart. The pub there also does a great Sunday lunch.

BestIsWest · 06/08/2023 12:20

I totally forgot about Carreg Cennen. Good recommendation.

BestIsWest · 06/08/2023 12:23

If you like cycling you can hire bikes at Llanelli or Pembrey and cycle the Millenium coastal path.

rileynexttime · 08/08/2023 09:47

We had a lovely time at Pembury so much space.
So easy to park !
Carreg Cennen and lovely cafe was all one could want for a castle . Highlight of the day was Henrhyd Falls in full flow. Spectacular .
Low point was being made to reverse up road as we foolishly were crossing Brecon Beacons. I remain unconvinced that approaching driver could not have reversed himself . Compounded by his lack of acknowledging any thanks .
Judging from the smell our clutch was not impressed either .

😨

Glad you are enjoying yourselves. I’m going to visit Henrhyd myself this week.
