Why don't people read WhatsApp msgs

My old employer had reached out to me a mth ago to ask if I would consider working for him a few evenings a week. I responded to say I was interested and he said he'd be in touch. On Tuesday I send him a msg basically asking him if he still needed me and to let me know if he needed anything from me etc. he hasn't even read my msg 😵‍💫 why is it too much trouble to read a msg?

I know he was in work when I WhatsApped as I was told ( this is why I sent the msg) I just think he's now changed his mind or given the hrs to an existing member of staff which is completely fine, I just don't understand the ignoring me lol

I don't want to text him incase he is deliberately not replying and it makes me look desperate lol

It’s August. Id assume holiday. But a month and no contact over a work offer is rude anyway.

Sorry, I should have said that a staff member was leaving in August and it was that job that was being replaced

Well why haven't you picked up the phone, made a call and had a conversation with him?

Unless the answer is a simple yes/no with no further details needed WhatsApp is a crap method for communicating, as is SMS and instant messaging. It irritates the hell out of me at work when someone sends me a message when it's going to end up being a long drawn out back and forth that could just be addressed with a 2 min conversation where any uncertainties can be explored and agreed.

People read them on their Lock Screen and don’t have to go into WhatsApp - may have thought he’d replied and hasn’t.

He might have archived your last message, so any new messages also go into archive unless he unarchives you. He might just not have noticed he has messages in his archive.

I sometimes don't read messages until I know I am able to sit down and reply property; perhaps he does the same thing.
