MollysBrolly · 05/08/2023 23:51

One bit of thunder and it rained for half an hour then back to the usual crappy grey clouds

Tilllly · 05/08/2023 23:55

Didn't notice

Iactuallylovedit · 05/08/2023 23:56

Poured half the day, SE

mamaduckbone · 05/08/2023 23:57

Poured with rain all day but nothing especially stormy in the midlands.

FrivolousTreeDuck · 06/08/2023 00:00

For once we escaped the bad weather in Yorkshire! It was quite a nice day here by the standards of this 'summer'.

Aplume · 06/08/2023 00:02

Just another rainy summer day.

Bored of this summer now.

Also bored of this fad for naming storms. It's stupid.

Wiccan · 06/08/2023 00:04

Very very fine rain and a light breeze , really wasn't worth all the scare reporting in the news.

ErrolTheDragon · 06/08/2023 00:06

Where was it? It was ok in Lancashire today, went for a slightly drizzly walk in the afternoon

Yellowcakestand · 06/08/2023 00:07

My job got cancelled today due to the yellow weather warning. It didn't rain after 1pm and the sun came out!

Caramelsmadfuzzytail · 06/08/2023 00:07

It's happened?

LesLavandes · 06/08/2023 00:08

I'm still waiting for it to kick off - Brighton

Todayiscool · 06/08/2023 00:11

Surrey.

But of thunder around 1pm.

Fairly heavy rain.

Then back to normal.

tryingtoflourish · 06/08/2023 00:13

Dorset coast. A bit of drizzle or light to medium rain on and off all day.

The BBC news channel ran with it most of the day as one of their headlines - the video they were showing for the headline showed a few normal size lapping waves gently hitting a coast wall! ie they didn't have any better pix because it was all over exaggerated in the first place

murasaki · 06/08/2023 00:16

South London nearly Surrey, rained most of the day, some harder than other bits, massive thunder at one point. I was mostly concerned that idiot cat wouldn't come back despite me hearing her miaow for hours, while I miaow back over the neighbours fence like a loon....don't know where she hid but she wasn't as damp as she should have been when I finally got her in.

Caramelsmadfuzzytail · 06/08/2023 00:21

I live on the North Norfolk coast BTW.

DoorstoManual · 06/08/2023 00:33

Surrey/Hampshire borders, it came down in stair rods.

I was at the local(ish) farm shop eight miles from home, the rain came through the roof of the farm shop in torrents, the car park was flooded, had to get into the back door of the car and climb into the front. I then drove home on a 50 road at just under 30, standing water everywhere, drains gurgling. I knew it was bad when the white van man behind me was hanging back and when I stuck my hazards on, (yes it was that deep in places) he mimicked me, at the top of Botany Hill the water was so deep, that I hit the standing water (slowly) and it attempted to go over my roof.

I drove a further two miles down the road and it had definitely been raining, but DH and DS were looking at me when I said how scary it was.

So in conclusion, I think it was localised and vicious.

Not something I wish to revisit for quite some time.

I agree that naming storms is daft...particularly when they are non events in places where they've been forecast to be terrible.

South Carmarthenshire here. It rained (as per this summer generally) fairly heavily for about an hour before we got up. Then showery on and off throughout the morning. No wind till late afternoon and then only a bit blustery. Sunny most of the afternoon and early evening. Very cold though.

HaveYouHeardOfARoadAtlas · 06/08/2023 07:05

Some horrendous rain while driving in NE England yesterday. Visibility on the A1 was minimal and felt scary.

Aposterhasnoname · 06/08/2023 07:08

It pissed down all day, same as it has done for about a month.

christmastreefarm · 06/08/2023 07:11

London / Surrey borders. Not as bad as I expected apart from one enormous bang of thunder / lightening - it apparently hit the Costa roof about 600m from me and knocked out their power.

WingBingo · 06/08/2023 07:21

Very windy in Devon during the afternoon.

got my washing dry super quick, so cheers Antoni.

isthismylifenow · 06/08/2023 07:34

I heard about the impending storm on our news. I don't even live in the UK, or even EU for that matter.

So I saw this thread and thought I had better check to see what damage there was and if everyone is OK etc etc.

It all seems a bit dramatic don't you think. 😆. Sky running with it all day and making international news. And it appears it was just a rainy day.

I don't understand the naming of these either. Where I live we have proper storms often, which are quite usual. Imagine each one had a name 😂.

ducktape · 06/08/2023 07:37

Weather was lovely - one heavy half hour shower and that was it. It has been cloudy and rainy every day for 6 weeks. We have solar panels and generated more electricity yesterday than any day since 8th July.

CoffeandTiaMaria · 06/08/2023 07:40

Quite heavy rain for a few minutes, otherwise drizzle on and off followed by a warm, sunny afternoon here in south Gloucestershire. A bit windy at times but nothing alarming.
Non event really!

dramoy · 06/08/2023 07:59

SW London, rained on/off all day (very heavy at points) with some thunder. Tbh it's been like this the past week or so minus the thunder.
