My beloved elderly guinea pig is watching Netflix with me.

Would love to see what your pets are up to on a Friday night Smile

1 dog by me and other at my feet

I dont have lovely photos but….

Cat 1 is asleep on a chair, cat 2 is asleep on a bed

Meanwhile in the fish tank the two apple snails have done the deed and I now have nearly 50 tiny shelled babies to re-home.

a Siamese fighting fish has been recovered from the brink of death and is now swimming round a spare tank looking very healthy;

i have Prosecco/

I've recently acquired two Guinea pigs, but they're just sat by themselves, munching through the carrot peelings and pepper stalks leftover from dinnertime.

Sorry to derail, but what's your advice for having a lovely, calm, cuddly Guinea pig? One of mine is fairly chilled, quite happy to sit on a lap (but only with constant stroking- if you take your hand off her then she tries to make a break for it!) but the other one is really not keen, very scrabbly, generally scared. What's your view on regular handling for desensitisation vs just stressing her out even more by persevering with it? They're almost 6 months.

Ps are you sure that's a Guinea pig, and not a porcupine?! What an incredible coat 😍

I am absolutely no piggie expert (there are many MNers who are, and may have much better advice).

Ours came as rescues and were very timid at first. However, after a long time being indoor pigs and getting used to the sounds and smells of daily life, they became totally at ease. We sadly only have one now, but he is very cuddly and happily sits with us in the evening. If yours are willing to be touched / cuddled, then keep going as long as they are content. ♥️

Yep and it wasn’t planned. Parents have been separated. Apple snails ate male or female. Evidently I got one of each.

One cat is eating biscuits in the kitchen, the other three are sitting in the porch watching the world go by.

Apple snails are great! Had one at work until it literally got too big for his shell and died.
Would love another one

Dragon bring yourself over to "Small Pets" on the "Pet" Topic there are tonnes of piggie threads there .

I kept piggies for years and one thing I noticed were the boars were far more laid back . The sows were always more busy and important Grin .
They are lovely gentle little animals and basically stomachs on legs which means they pee/pooh loads too (and they are messy unlike rabbits)
They love routine it makes them secure .Mealtimes are the highlight of the day and they'll let you know (noisily) if you're late.
They like boxes and paperbags (no handles/ staples /tape) to explore
Cut two doors in a box so the bolshier one doesn't trap the shy one
Deft , careful handling . If you think they're a bit lairy , wrap them in a towel , especially if they're little . You'll get to know the subtle signs that they want a pee -ours got restless or stamped theit feet .

They are the most vunerable creatures , thinking everything is out to eat them. They don't retaliate llike other animals (though our sows would kick the neutered boar if he got a bit familiar , one boar could jump out of his travel box ! ) They have thick little necks so don't turn quickly . And though they could give you a bite they very rarely do . And its only if you scare or hurt them.

Guiea-pigs are close relatives to the porcupine - but without the spines Grin
