Car hire

A friend is meant to be visiting me and was looking to hire a car and return it on Sunday.
Friend is telling me the car hire companies don’t open on a Sunday to return the car.
Im not convinced and think they are making an excuse. This is near Bolton.
Do car hire companies close on Sundays?

I think most are closed but Google should tell you

My local one are closed but have a key box and charge you an out of hours fee. It was actually cheaper to keep until the Monday as the daily rate goes down the more days you have it.
