Which paint colour for downstair bathroom- want something different!

I’ve just painted throughout in neutral colour, I want to make the downstairs bathroom a bit different.
could go with a blue for a seaside theme but wondered about a really different colour- something like bright purple. Has anyone done something similar with one room? Am I best just staying neutral?

Our house is neutral, cream and black. I’m going to paint the toilet in teal with one wall in a brightly patterned teal wallpaper - recently saw it in a show-home and it looked amazing.

That sounds briliant- I could do teal with something beachy on one walk maybe?

I do like teal.
I’ve seen some where they use quite dark wallpaper with exotic looking birds, gold accents, and put hanging plants in. I thought it would make it look small, but it doesn’t.
I recently saw a pale pink kitchen and it was gorgeous.

BTW I meant I want to paint the walls of the downstairs toilet not the actual toilet 😂 the colour was very similar to Vardo by Farrow and Ball and the wallpaper was an exotic pattern, I like Graham and Brown Borneo teal wallpaper

94.3% of UK bathrooms have a beach theme. Fact

Didn't mean to press send! I'm only kidding, but not really as have viewed about 100 right move ads recently while buying our home and there were sooo many.

I LOVE dramatic cloakrooms, teal walls with rainforest wallpaper sounds right up my street.

Instahome2 · 04/08/2023 14:17

I'm planning a navy downstairs loo (stiffkey blue) with a chandelier light. Dark and dramatic, maybe some black and white tiling on the floor. Black shelves, plants and lots of art prints from well known artists all over the walls, like a mini gallery.

I have a fairly neutral scandi house but I wanted something different in the downstairs loo. I do like that colour is making more of an appearance these days.

Coral would look great.

Alakazam8 · 04/08/2023 14:56

Ok love Teal so will go for that- haven’t found a wallpaper I like as yet though, any suggestions for an amazing wallpaper that would match. Rainforest animals or cats ideal! But has to match (I think)

My entire house is in neutral colours so I like to have fun with the downstairs loo. Just go mad! I've had it in deep burgundy, but it's currently battleship grey.

longtompot · 04/08/2023 17:14

My downstairs loo is currently pale pink with a blue wall behind the loo, but I am going to repaint that an emerald green that I have painted the walls of our main bathroom with.
I love loos which have interesting wallpaper on the walls, sometimes to do with an interest the family have.

I've painted mine pale pink but one wall is both magnetic and a white board (I used magnetic pain first which you can paint over with any color you like, then white board paint that dries clear) we have a tub of markers and actively encourage comments , doodles, graffiti etc ..we also have a long running game of Scrabble using magnetic letter tiles...it's got a bit rude !

igetwhatyoumean · 04/08/2023 17:20

Ours is a really dark but shiny kind of green colour. It's definitely a statement! People say they love it but I'm not sure if they're being honest! I didn't pick it!

Whataretalkingabout · 04/08/2023 17:25

The most gorgeous powder room I ever saw was in a dark red on creme baroque flocked velour wall paper with a thick red shag rug. Gold and black accent pieces. Gorgeous!
Dark pinks and reds make your skin look fabulous. Blue would be depressing to me. A bttrr beach theme would be in white with touches of orange yellow and turquoise to me- to keep the warm feeling.

I like a dramatic bathroom. One of our bathrooms has navy wallpaper with a chestnut blossom pattern and the other is painted F&B bancha which is a dark olive.

If you still want it to feel cohesive I'd stick to similar colours to the rest of the house but in darker shades. So e.g. with the above two bathrooms we have lighter blues and greens throughout the house.

Coffeetree · 04/08/2023 17:37

Teal is fab, and easy on the eyes.

I'm really fond of a very pale coral/pink. Really gives a room a soft glow.

Coffeetree · 05/08/2023 10:56

Wow, that is dramatic!!! I'm inspired.

greenteaandmarshmallows · 05/08/2023 10:57

Too dark and it looks like you're trying to cover mould

Mine is just lemon yellow and aquamarihe on different alternate walks. I do have framed tropical fish prints (like postcard size) and a nautical porthole with a red stripe thing ornament.

My DM’s I bought her a lovely planets print and she put it in downstairs toilet in her house. I was a bit Hmm. It shares it with a Timtin Snowy print (huge.

Parents also have a huge Dutch floral fruit print in their pale cream toilet room in France (holiday home).

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 05/08/2023 11:07

Not quite the same but my friend who does have a downstairs proper bathroom (not powder room) wanted me to mosaic if once. I did do one wall to be fair, combo of mermaid and tropical fish in sort of sea. She wanted me to mosaic the whole bathroom!
