Hi everyone - can anyone help me understand what we need to do to get married please?

My fiancé is divorced so am I right in thinking that for us to register our marriage we need a copy of his decree absolute before we can register our notice? can we do it without this? (I’m guessing not!)

Also we’re getting married in England but a totally different area to where we live - so do we register our notice where we live or where we’re getting married?

Thanks all! There’s so much conflicting info online.

Call the registry office you want to marry in and they will be able to tell you where to give notice etc.

Yes you will need decre absolute. I recently got married for the second time and it was needed at first appointment.

Church or civil? Makes a big difference to the required paperwork

Thanks both. He’s useless with paperwork so we’ll need to get a copy of his decree absolute as he doesn’t have one!

It’s civil.

Yes you definitely need a copy. I couldn't find mine in the run up to my wedding and there was no way around it. Thankfully I found it!

I think you register at the area you live in but need to provide full details of the wedding
