Would a Ring Doorbell be suitable for 2nd Floor Flat?

Daughter is soon to move into rented student flat which is second floor. The ground floor is a shop and then there is a flat below theirs.

Would a ring doorbell work in this scenario? So she could know see who she from her phone who was buzzing the door at street level…

Only if she has really good wi-fi. Mine can be glitchy in my 3 bed house.

I would say if its a communal entrance then you would need to get permission from the others people living or use that entrance. They might not want to be recorded on video.

No, I think it would be highly unlikely to be reliable enough a connection over that distance and as PP mentions, I suspect there may be privacy/legal ramifications.

A video doorbell would need a WiFi connection so only issue I could see is if the WiFi signal from her flat doesn’t cover the outside of the front door.

Otherwise it should work fine. We can see who’s outside our door when we’re abroad so she’ll definitely be able to see who’s downstairs.

She may get notified of downstairs visitors though which may get annoying so she’ll have to put on a sign clearly saying which flat the doorbell is for!

Also need to get permission for drilling it into the front door/ frame/outside wall I should imagine.
