I'm in my mid-50s and was brought up to live within my means, save up for things, not take on debt other than a sensible mortgage, use a credit card for the protection it offers but pay it off in full every month (unless 0% and savings earning more in the bank).
Over the years, I've had hard times when money has been very tight (high-interest rates and negative equity) and times where the pressure has been off and there has been more money for extras but I've always stuck to the basics of keeping money aside for a rainy day and living well within our means.
Do you keep to a budget?
