Parking fine Help!

I have just received a letter from my car finance company saying I have received a parking fine. It was address to the car finance company not me. However this was from March! The car park have passed the fine onto a debt collection agency.

My car finance have apparently told them 3 times now I am the registered keeper and that I should be sent the fine directly. Until they do this can I actually be held responsible? I have been told that I have the right to be informed within 14 days to pay it which they have not done.

I have to add I have tried to contact the car park/debt collectors numerous times and had no response or answer.

Personally I'd keep careful records of my attempts to contact them..offer to pay whatever the original fine was then leave it. If they eventually take you to court which is unlikely, you've got a paper trail of their failure to deal with you properly (disclaimer..just my opinion, not legal advice!)

Thank you @BibbleandSqwauk
This is exactly what I have done up to now. My DH is confident if it went to court it wouldn't hold but i'm a worrier.

I dont know if it would help any but it might settle your mind a bit ..if you have a quick you tube search of the BlackBelt Barrister he does lots vids about parking fines/charges. Its really informative and easy to watch.

If you are the registered keeper how have they sent notice to finance company. Sounds suspect to me.

They don't have a leg to stand on in court if they've been sending the fines to the wrong people!

Sorry don't know why I have said finance company it's the car leasing company I lease the car from

Are you the registered keeper?? Because that is who any fine would be sent to

So you lease the car. Does that not mean that the car leasing company is the registered keeper rather than you? If so then it is probably correct that they receive the fines, but they should have passed them on to you? Is that not how it works?

I've never leased cars except for the very occasional rental whilst on holiday, so it's possible that I am talking out of my arse.

@Topseyt123 yes that's correct. The car leasing company are the registered keeper hence why they are getting the fines. They have show us two letters that they have sent to the car park company telling them my details and to contact me. This final letter has also been sent to myself (hence why I now know about the fine) and to the car park company. For some reason they don't seem to be reading acknowledging any letter/email /phone call.
