Hello! Hoping someone with knowledge of domains and emails can help me understand if my friend's ex has access to her emails.
My friend's personal email is using the domain of a website her ex bf owns. Assume his website is called sellstuff.com. Friend's email address is [email protected]. The website is a Wordpress one if that makes any difference.
Now, his website isn't active anymore i.e it's just a blank page and he hasn't used it for years other than for his own personal email. However, friend has retained her email post break up as she felt it was a faff to change. He has always re-assured her he couldn't access her emails or password.
It only recently occurred to me that if he owns the domain and is also the admin of the domain - then he can access her emails? Because at work our IT teams are admins for our emails and would have access (obv they can't access it without permission due to company policy). But in this case, given it's just one guy, I'm thinking he could definitely snoop on her emails? Or am I misunderstanding?
A couple of days ago I sent her an email that ended up in junk for the first time. We've been exchanging emails for years so I'm a 'safe sender', there was nothing weird in the title or text - and we were both confused. And now we are wondering if he's been in her inbox. He was a tech genius with coding and general computer stuff so she's very worried he's been keeping tabs on her for years.
Can anyone let me know how secure her email was on that setup? She's getting a Gmail address now but are wondering how it's been for the last 10 years!
