How would this make you feel?

I'm 70 and carer for my autistic daughter. I'm also pretty disabled myself ( bone on bone arthritis) so it's hard for me to go out. Today I put in a small grocery order with just Eat. Several bottles of water and milk plus random other things. I always ask the driver to pass them through my kitchen window, as it's easier for me. Today's driver didn't like that at all, he gave me a filthy look and a sarcastic " have a nice day" as he practically threw them at me!
Just Eat doesn't have a facility for tipping, I absolutely would have used it, as I don't keep cash in the house. I was left feeling embarrassed and slightly upset.
Am I wrong to ask drivers to do this?

he did as you asked? what is the issue exactly? I wouldn't feel anything

PowerToTheGnomes · 02/08/2023 15:20

It's an unusual request but he shouldn't have been rude or had an attitude
Don't let them spoil your day

CouldIHaveThatInEnglishPlease · 02/08/2023 15:20

Is the front window easy to access? Are there any plants or bushes below? Is it muddy grass?

StillPerplexed · 02/08/2023 15:21

Not an unreasonable request at all. Can't be the nicest job, rushing groceries around, but he doesn't have to be unpleasant.

Very easy, a short drive, and the window is nearer than the door. He was about walk past me and dump them by the door.
I guess I am being a bit sensitive, bad pain day!

I wouldn't dwell on this...it's a bit of a non event.

I don't think you're being sensitive. Its horrible to feel like someone is upset when you've done nothing wrong

The issue is clearly that he made the sarcastic comment and it upset the OP.

I agree. The rudeness was just unnecessary.

FoodFann · 02/08/2023 21:03

Sorry OP. Sounds difficult! I would maybe say ‘I’m disabled, would you mind please passing them through to me’. I know you shouldn’t have to tell people your reasons, but they might be more sympathetic knowing your circumstances 💐

CouldIHaveThatInEnglishPlease · 02/08/2023 21:10

I wouldn't dwell on it. Maybe he was having a bad day?
Could have been given lots of country lane drops, in the rain, with no where to park, then slipped down a muddy bank and ripped his trousers and had to do the rest of his deliveries with his butt cheek hanging out and desperately trying to cover it up with a jumper and therefore just not in the right frame of mind to be talking and passing through the window when he just wants to get done and home asap this may have happened to me once when I used to do delivery's

I really wouldn't worry about it if I was you

INeedAnotherName · 02/08/2023 21:19

You are having a pain day and things always seem magnified then. By the same token maybe he was having a pain day?

Today's driver didn't like that at all, he gave me a filthy look
Some people just look as though they are giving filthy looks, it doesn't mean they are. When my hayfever is troubling me my eyes go smaller and i look like I'm giving filthy looks.
and a sarcastic " have a nice day" as he practically threw them at me!
Was it sarcastic though? Maybe he thought you had an infectious disease and wanted to gell the hell out, so he was quicker than you wanted, and spoke quicker.

Mountain and molehill spring to mind. And I'm a fellow pain sufferer.
