Stopping breastfeeding for a one year old who refuses cows milk

Interested in others stories. I stopped the morning feed when my baby turned 1 last week and now down to the night feed. Not sure when to stop that one.

She is eating really really well. Gets decent calcium intake from non milk sources (cheese, bread, green veggies) but doesn’t like drinking cows milk or even expressed BM or formula.

Thinking of stopping in a few weeks anyway. How long is best to leave it between dropping them?

I don't think there is an ideal time frame as such, whatever feels right for you. For what it is worth my eldest didn't really entertain the idea of drinking cows milks until a few weeks after I stopped breastfeeding her. I dropped her last feed at 14 months as I had to go away for work and then we just kept offering cows milk regularly.

I heard don't drop more than one BF feed a week.

DS wouldn't entertain the idea of any milk in a cup or bottle, but shortly after I stopped breastfeeding he pointed at the cows' milk bottle from the fridge and got some in a cup, he hasn't looked back since!

Mine all stopped of their own accord between 12-15 months. They’d all refused formula, bottles, cows milk and my eldest also didn’t drink water yet either. So she ended up with a gap between giving up breastfeeding and taking other liquids. We gave her lots of liquid foods and dairy like cheese and yoghurt and one day she accepted water from a sippy cup. And none of them wanted cows milk until a good while later. So we never replaced breastfeeding with a nighttime bottle of milk.

Human babies do not need to drink cows milk.

Just water is fine.

True. But babies do need calcium

You could try them with fortified coconut milk (my dd had allergies to cows milk and soya, this is what we used), soya or oat milk?

Milk based puddings may be a good use idea also.

Lots of other foods contain calcium. Babies don't need cows milk to get it.
