Mushrooms for healing

Does anyone here use mushrooms/take mushroom supplements for health reasons?

I'm reading more and more about our fungus friends, particularly for dementia (a worry of mine) and I'm getting more and more convinced.

This is what started off my interest:

I’ve taken them at non- hallucinogenic doses. They made me feel happy and I stopped smoking and changed to a vape. Which was hard for me to do before. This happened without any intention to stop smoking

Mushrooms/ fungi have some fantastic health giving properties, and I think we have a way to go to fully understand their full potential. But you also have to be very careful as some types of mushrooms can be deadly (damage the liver and kidneys beyond repair, cause permanent brain damage etc).
I drink a coffee with ground Lions Mane fungi and have found it helps with PMT which (which always gives me anxiety as in I feel anxious at the same time as PMT hits, not that I get anxious about getting PMT) i don't drink it every day (it's expensive) but I drink it for a week before PMT is due (not exact science as my cycle is a bit hit and miss) but I notice the difference when I've not drunk the coffee and when I have...could be placebo I guess, but hey if it works, I'm okay with that!

Do you mean 'magic' mushrooms? If so, Im glad they helped you but these aren't the ones I'm particularly interested in 🤣

Totally agree with you.

I'm certainly hoping to introduce them more into my diet but won't be foraging them myself - only what I see in markets.

I'm thinking of getting supplements - lions mane is what I'm considering too for memory, the same anxiety you talk about but more related to the menopause.

I took messima mushrooms for a few months after a miscarriage to help lower natural killers cells in my body, the lady I went to acupuncture was really big into mushrooms! Have you looked at the FabÜ range of mushroom supplements?

LittleEsme · 02/08/2023 12:03

@Daniki I haven't, but I will now.

I've bought a book that looks at the 10 biggest healing mushrooms and I really would like to invest in some supplements.

I'm wondering where I can get more information - I'm on fluoxetine and thyroxine so I don't want to risk any harm.

@LittleEsme I'd say any decent health food shop, someone should know if anything would interfere. The lady I went to was a nurse for 20 years so she really knew her stuff! I'm based in Ireland tho so be no help to you I'm afraid
