New kindle user question

I got a kindle yesterday...first time user. Wondering how I go back in the book several pages? I know to tap left hand side to go back one but is there a way to scroll back more?

Is there a 'button' on the screen that looks like lines and dashes?

It is on mine and when I click it gives me the option to go back and forward by chapters
