How, how, how can it still be raining?

It’s the 1st August and it’s lashing it down. Force 8 winds here tomorrow.

FFS

Surely the rain gets bored of raining and has to stop at some. Winter, OK, but all summer too? Really?

The sun shines on the water and it evaporates.
When enough water evaporates it blocks the sun with clouds so the water at the bottom cools down.
Cold things fall and hot things rise.
So it rains.
Rain in summer actually makes more sense than rain in winter when you think about it.

It’s so rubbish. BBC article I read said it might get better in September! Which is proper rubbish for teachers 😫

Gregging · 01/08/2023 23:52

The pesky jet stream innit

I thought teachers worked most of the holidays?

Have decided I hate the jet stream. It is not my favourite stream at all

I’m sure many do, I was planning on going in for 2 days in a couple of weeks, but with this miserable weather I’m tempted to go in earlier. If I sort out a few bits now I might be able to get out earlier when the weather finally improves..

I've never seen any teacher on MN say that. What they do say is that they work during most holidays, which is quite different.

Get out of teaching👍Tis a deadly profession. Nearly did for DH after 25 years

We've fucked the climate, the weather is just bonkers. It's making me sad Sad
I know weather has always been pretty unpredictable, but it is visibly different.

Harsh but fair. Jet stream is now out of the cycle of trust. You had 1 job for summer and blew it - literally.

Oh don't get me started! English weather at the moment officially sucks- I am fed up of storms/grey skies/torrential rain. I WFH but have to go in one day this week. 15C is the forecast- in August in Yorkshire. I'll get my big coat out now.

mrsfollowill · 02/08/2023 00:22

I'm probably being too soft with the big coat - should get on with it really and stick with a sack over mi shoulders!

Diorinthecountryy · 02/08/2023 00:26

I've had my log burner on this week. Had a jumper on yesterday and tonight have a hot water bottle in bed.

Can we just have some sun.. please!!!!!!

elliejjtiny · 02/08/2023 00:29

I hate it. I can't get my washing dry because the stuff on the line just gets rained on and I can't use the clothes dryer thing because it belts out heat while taking 6 hours to dry the clothes. I was really looking forward to doing nice stuff during the school holidays and it's just wet and horrible.

continentallentil · 02/08/2023 00:30

It sucks, I have got used to hot summers* and now I feel let down and sad.

It’s like every October when it gets dark I feel let down and sad.

*I realise this isn’t a good thing, but since childhood the fact England wasn’t like New England with hot summers and cold winters has made me feel let down and sad

VinEtFromage · 02/08/2023 00:42

SE north Hampshire.

It was 25° here today. I was stuck in a glass room with 6 others, no windows. No aircon. Just 7 of us making loads & loads of hot, steamy coffee.

i was sweating so much, my hair was soaked.

tomorrow I'm home, it's supposed to rain all day.

sodding typical.

SadieOlsen · 02/08/2023 00:54

It's so unrelentingly dank out there. Mega fine rain constantly for 5 days. I put some washing out this morning and its been danked on. Add to that the farmers are muck spreading or something because the air smells rank as well as dank.
