Amsterdam city break… 2 nights?

Wondering if two nights is worth it in September? We like good food & interesting museums. I hear people rave about Amsterdam and wonder if we should try it. We aren’t big drinkers

We have found a deal for £250pp (hotel and flights included) would you say that’s good? Any tips or recommendations for things to do there appreciated

Yes it's wonderful! 2 nights is plenty.

You certainly dont have to be a drinker (or smoker) to enjoy it.

Walk along the canals, go to Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh museum, enjoy their fantastic coffee scene. Food isn't spectacular, but they have nice restaurants.

Yes, 2 nights will be fabulous. Lots to do and a very cool city.

I love Amsterdam, perfect for a wander or take a tram, do the big museums, browse shops, soak up atmosphere. There are some very cute little restaurants - I found a trendy little vegan place that had the best home-made hummus ever. Don’t be afraid to go off the beaten track.

Also I love Rotterdam - different vibe and more do-able in a weekend - the food market hall is amazing, boat trip round the vast dockland is interesting, lots of modern architecture and good museums, and you can take a historic tram and also go and see the one little part that wasn’t obliterated in WW2 which is poignant. In my opinion it is also perfect for a weekend trip.

Worth booking the Van Gogh museum in advance, if you want to visit Anne Frank's house you cannot just turn up. Rijksmuseum is very good too.

That's a great price for hotel+flights. You'll still enjoy 2 nights. The rijksmuseum can easily take a whole day its just amazing, that whole area actually

Which hotel is it ? Some are way out of the centre and others have extremely tiny rooms - we stayed at one and the toilet was literally at the bottom of the bed and had no door on

Yes two nights is plenty and that's a very good price - I'd have a good look at reviews for the hotel on tripadvisor at that price though.

I'm not a fan of Amsterdam, it was over run with tourists and stag and hen groups even when we went in October and i just found it all a bit depressing. Personally I'd much rather go to Porto or Palma Mallorca, both lovely for a weekend, not as close though.

Intel Zaandam.
Has good reviews for being just a couple of train stops away

It does yes , sounds like a good option if you don’t mind the train journey in and out

We loved Amsterdam, we were just sightseeing, did a lot of walking. Loved the Church in the Attic.

I've stayed at the Inntel Zandaam, it was good, nice rooms, modern, good but small swimming pool if you've time for that. It was very close to the station, quick and easy to get into the city centre. Quirky design on the outside! I would stay there again.

In the evenings we went to restaurants and bars in Zandaam, rather than staying in the city centre - cheaper, less chaotic and no hen.
/stag parties! There were plenty of choices of restaurant, and a good mix of tourists and locals. Menus all in Dutch though, so google translate came in handy!
