Common foods your children have never tried?

Lighthearted thread:

DD8 had a friend over the other day for a play date and tea. I did spag bol. DD's friend had never tried it before, and she gave it a good go and seemed to enjoy it. (I did check with Mum that it would be ok to serve beforehand).

It got me thinking about what common foods my DC have never had for no particular reason. They've never had roast beef because I can't stand it and won't cook it. Nor have they had stew for similar reasons. They've never had a jacket potato because it's not something that is on my radar when meal planning.

Just wondering, out of curiosity, if anyone else's DC have never tried fairly common foods before? I'm not talking for dietary reasons such as veganism or allergies, more because the opportunity has never arisen etc.

Well I’m in my 40s and have never eaten baked beans. Afaik Dd never has either.

Theunamedcat · 01/08/2023 12:41

Roast beef here too I don't like it so it's an expensive waste of money if they don't like it

My 9 year old has never had stew either. I realised this the other day when stew came up in one of his books, and he didn't know what it was.

He tried chicken keiv for the first time, not so long ago too.

Oh, not food but drinkwise, he also haven't had cloudy lemonade until recently.

Fruit pastilles

Mine has never had tomato ketchup or mayonnaise. Refuses to try them. He's n adult now and still hasn't.

Beef, steak, stew.

Rice pudding, although I don't know if that's common any more.

MintJulia · 29/08/2023 19:21

Various drinks. My ds (15) refuses point blank to try anything except water. The only exception is warm lemon barley water if he has a sore throat.

My son, nearly 30, has to my knowledge never had tea or coffee. Never fancied either of them.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 29/08/2023 19:25

Mushrooms - I don’t eat them

DinnaeFashYersel · 29/08/2023 19:27

I discovered the other day that neither of mine (10 and 14) had heard of rolos?

Mine don't get much fish (apart from fingers) as I hate fish and DH is a vegetarian so lots of normal fish things they likely wont have tried.

SuperiorM · 29/08/2023 19:28

Chicken nuggets

CutiePatooties · 29/08/2023 19:28

My DD (soon to be 7) is such a fussy eater, that she hasn’t tried most things. Never tried spag bol, jacket potato, any condiments, beans, roast dinner, any sandwich that isn’t just cheese or just ham. She doesn’t touch anything with sauce or gravy (like stews, lasagne, casseroles, pasta bakes etc). Everything is plain and dry and awful.

AnneLovesGilbert · 29/08/2023 19:29

DD4 had custard for the first time last week. Absolutely loved it. She won’t try gravy. Don’t know why.
