What work are Thames Water doing outside my house?

The description online says 'Lead Serv Pipe Relay Sz P Cway in Carriageway. Our intention is tocomplete the Permanent Reinstatement in the same phase'.

What on earth does that mean?

They're replacing a lead (as in the metal) service pipe - the one that comes to the properties off the main - with one that isn't made of lead.

I'm feeling slightly foolish - I didn't realise it meant lead, the metal. I was assuming it was a lead/ main pipe. Interesting - thank you.
