Premier league football shirts newbie. Help!

Hi, DS 13 (but only 5ft) is after a football shirt. He has only got into football in the last 12-18months so I am all new to this. In sports direct today and all the new season shirts are £80 plus. Is this just the way it is? Or is there a better place to get one? He is a Tottenham fan but considering a shirt from a European side as he reckons a Tottenham shirt where we live will just mean he gets a lit of hassle.

Also sizes? He is about 152cm. Not huge but not skinny either. He has chubbed up a little and we suspect this is a precursor to a growth spurt.

Any tips or tricks? I need the collective wisdom of the mumsnet masses! Help!

New shirts are round about that price everywhere unfortunately.

There are very good replicas on DH Gate that cost about £15 though if you're prepared to wait a few weeks for delivery.

I also find that sizes are small so bear that in mind when getting one.

Fellow Tottenham fan here. New season shirts are £80 and there’s no real discount on them. Also tell him to wear it with pride!

The Spurs shop has a size guide, I’d go loose if he’s got growing to do. I’m an 8/10 and I wear at XL kids shirt but it’s quite tight and tighter than DH would wear.

Old season shirts are cheaper but it’s noticeable that they’re different. I personally don’t care but I know teenage boys feel very differently about this.

Thank you. We'll try a few on for size. The pricing of everything football feels like such a con though.

Football kit is obscenely expensive. Personally I think they should pay all the players a bit less and make the kit more affordable for their fans. But anyway, to answer your question, nearly all of it comes up small in my experience, definitely size up, especially at that price you want it to last.
