Anyone else find self care really tedious?

So I keep myself clean and tidy, but I find all the showering, tootbrushing, hair washing etc so tedious. I cut it to the bone, don't moisturise, don't style my hair, no make up. A spa weekend is my idea of hell. On a Sunday I often skip it all as a treat, bar the tooth brushing. Now, I don't think I'm lazy, I go to the gym, have multiple degrees, work hard etc. Just hate all the repetitive necessary tasks to make myself presentable. I know from this site that loads of people love all this, face masks, nail varnish etc. I'm looking for the people who find it a chore!

I very rarely blow dry my hair it tends to look OK I dry it if I'm going somewhere but generally I leave it.

"The reason I hadn't washed my clothes or my hair was because it seemed so silly. (...)
It seemed silly to wash one day when I would only have to wash it again the next.
It made me tired just to think of it.
I wanted to do everything once and for all and be through with it". Sylvia Plath - The Bell Jar

I read this quote as a teenager a long time ago and it struck a deep chord with me. It's having to repeat these tasks over and over again that is so tedious.

My ‘self care’ consists of a 7 minute shower, including hair wash/conditioner, moisturiser for face and body, teeth twice a day, lip balm, bit of powder/lippy if going out. Total time - less than 20 mins a day. I spend more time on MN.

its not self care to wash and keep clean and look after your skin….?

You’re entitled to live as you see fit and what you enjoy but hygiene isn’t self care, it’s a basic necessity for keeping ourselves healthy and germ & bacteria free.

now house work - that is tedious!

I shower twice a day! I find it absolutely amazing that some people only bathe / wash once a week. Everyone is different I guess

I have autism and bipolar, I have routine charts around the house so I know what I need to do, especially around hygiene. It's even written into my Care plan that I practice good hygiene as when I start becoming lax with it it's usually a sign I'm becoming unwell.

I do really enjoy doing my own nails though.

Fair enough, self care wasn't the right word. My point though was that while hygiene is a necessity and I do do it, I find it really tedious and boring, and I hate it. It might be only 15/30 minutes a day, but that's almost every day (for me anyway, because of work/social life) for the rest of my life! I'm very happy that I'm not alone in finding it a tremendous pain in the arse.

I absolutely hate it and find it hard to stick to my routine
I'm waiting to have a walk in shower installed as funding approved) so it's a sink wash until then every other day
Hair wash every 5 days( pixie) no faffing
Teeth twice, definitely one daily
Face cream mostly
Swipe of lipstick when I go out
Actual self care.. only a 6 weekly haircut

Absolutely. I often wish showers came as standard with a full-size body dryer of hot air. I feel like my skin should dry by itself far quicker than it does. The drying off is really tedious.

I never wear make-up or do more than quickly brush my hair. Can't fathom how anyone can be arsed with all that mosturising and face cream stuff but horses for courses.

I viewed a house that had just that,I have never ever heard of it before.
Beautiful bath then step out to be blasted ( gently ) with hot air to dry yourself. Such a luxury.

I hate shower day. And drying my hair.

I hate it. I only shower and wash my hair once a week ( wash in the sink other days). I use deodorant, face oil, brush my teeth and that's it. No make up, no hair drying. It saves me lots of money

Oh dear… 🤢
