I loved barbie growing up, was my fav toy. Took dd 10 to watch barbie, she and I both loved the film. Again loves barbies. We both now want to move to barbieland.
I have seen lots of people not like the film. I was wondering if loving barbie as a child made you love the film or not?

I don't think it makes much difference, apart from understanding more of the in-jokes if you're a die hard fan! If you are familiar with the concept of Barbie (and practically everyone is) it's an easy and fun (and interesting) watch

HiKenHiKenHiKen · 31/07/2023 11:33

I feel the same as you OP and I think it probably is better if you like Barbie. The film has been massively hypes so people are always going to want to find fault with it. I definitely want to move to Barbieland! Especially if it means living with Ryan Gosling Ken in the Mojo Dojo Casa House. totally misses the point of the movie

I was never really a Barbie kid, other than cutting their hair and pulling off their heads, and I LOVED the Barbie movie. Saw it yesterday with my 2 girls, who do play with Barbie, and they loved it too, although probably for different reasons.

I LOVED the film, thought it was genius but I was a Sindy girl.

I’ve also had Ryan Gosling singing ‘I’m just Ken, anywhere else I’d be a ten’ stuck in my head since leaving the cinema.

Comefromaway · 31/07/2023 11:40

My ds was never into dolls at all and he says Barbie is one of the best films he has ever seen.

You just played with them a bit too hard!!! 😂

Elsiebear90 · 31/07/2023 12:51

I never liked barbies and I still enjoyed the film, not sure it’s a good film for young kids though, there were two little girls (I would guess around 7 and 4) in the showing I went to and half way through they started playing up a bit and loudly asked to leave because they’re bored, I could see why because I actually think it’s a film made for adults.

Mrsjayy · 31/07/2023 12:54

I'm going at the weekend I never had Barbie wasn't even into dolls much I remember i had pippa dolls, anyway I'm looking forward to seeing it looks an absolute hoot hopefully it doesn't disappoint.

Natsku · 31/07/2023 12:56

Never liked barbies (or any other dolls) but I loved the film, so did my DD who only liked barbies for long enough for me to buy her some for Christmas and then not play with them Grin

TheaBrandt · 31/07/2023 12:59

Ice bear me too! All the time! Such an ear worm. Dh I and both teen girls really enjoyed it tho sadly we saw it separately they went with their respective pals then said they wish they had come with us!

Imagine what your poor Barbie's will look like in Barbieland 😂

Mrsjayy · 31/07/2023 13:02

Tbf Adult Dd loves Barbie and now collects them so I think she wil love it probably for the nostalgia and message. To me it looks like a live action Toy story.

creamedcustard · 31/07/2023 13:04

I couldn't stand Barbies as a kid, but loved the film. And not just for Ryan Gosling

Mrsjayy · 31/07/2023 13:07

Ken looks hilarious 😂

Hobbes8 · 31/07/2023 13:12

I don’t think it’s necessary, but it does add something. I loved all the details like the stickers in the fridge, the weird pooping dog, the ambulance that folds out - all of which I recognised from my daughter’s toys.

it’s a fab film without that though.

ChunkyMonkey2020 · 31/07/2023 13:13

Not a barbie fan if I'm honest.
Don't think I even owned one growing up.

BUT I loved the film!!

Weird Barbie has nothing on my Barbie 😆

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 31/07/2023 14:21

I loved Weird Barbie 😂 my Girls World looked like her.

Redcrayons · 31/07/2023 14:22

My Sister and I used to play with them when we were little, but we had loads of dolls so I don’t think that it was my favourite.

the film was so good, I really loved it.

id agree that it’s not a film for young children, there was a lot of very bored little girls in the showing I watched.

DewinDwl · 31/07/2023 14:24

I never liked Barbie but loved the film.

Dsis loved her Barbie and loved the film.

DD has never had a Barbie or played with one but loved the film.

WhatCameFirstTheChickenOrTheDickhead · 31/07/2023 14:27

I wasn't a barbie kid really but loved the film.

MMorales · 31/07/2023 14:29

Seriously think we need a Barbie topic

lljkk · 18/12/2023 13:39

I didn't relate, and it's preachy.
