What else could I do for work?

I'm really struggling with childcare/school picks ups, holiday cover when working.

I've work for the local authority for getting on for 20 years, always in a housing related role . Allocations, visiting officer, housing options, homelessness temporary accommodation etc.

2 primary school aged children. Solely responsible for all pick up/drop off/school hols.

I've tried and tried to find childcare but thus far relying of one friend and one family member and its too much to expect them to do.

I work part time. Happy to do more hours but it's the school finish to work finish times that are impossible.

Could you do your p/t hours over a whole week, and start later/finish earlier to accommodate school runs?

Eg:9.30-2.30 is 22.5 hrs a week if you have a 30 min lunch.

This doesn't help with school holidays though!

Could you do school hours term time only?

I do this (I don’t work in a school/education) and I do ad hoc days in the school holidays when my husband is off work

In mycurrent role I couldn't do school hours , indeed to be doing at least 1 but actually 2 full days.

@arapunzel what do you do? That would solve my problem, but I don't know where to start looking!

Another problem, current job is better paid that anything else I've seen.
