NC for this as have friends on here and we are going for FET for number 2 imminently.

(Not getting hopes up, but nice to think of names) we already have DD who is 2 which luckily worked first time.

For reference John James are family names but not too fussed and I know James can be a bit of a filler name.

Boys names:
Morgan James
Perry Alexander
Archie James
Finlay George
Rudi James
Frankie John James

Girls:
Harriet Rae (nn Hattie)
Lottie Rae (not Charlotte, just Lottie)
Martha Rae
Bonnie Rae

Also, thoughts on James as a middle name for a girl? I think it could possible be quite cool but it'll probably sound like a double barrelled surname.

Suggestions welcome!

Surname is Carter so lucky that it will go with most things.

Finlay George
Harriet or Martha, without Rae.

Findyourneutralspace · 31/07/2023 14:07

Finley James

Harriet - are you set on Rae for a middle name for a girl?

I’m not that keen but Harriet Rachel would be classic and you could have Hattie-Rae for a nickname

PackettInn · 31/07/2023 20:13

Nope not set on Rae for a middle name. It's just a name we both like. Suggestions welcome!

Love Rae! Martha Rae is gorgeous.

Sealover123 · 31/07/2023 20:16

I really like Morgan or Perry for a boy. They're distinguishable names but actually not that common. I've never known a boy with either of those names.

sandrene · 31/07/2023 20:16

Martha Carter would sound like Magna Carta!

FelicityFlops · 31/07/2023 20:24

Boy:
James Alexander
Girl:
Harriet Rede (Canadian name) no idea as to the origin of Rae.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 31/07/2023 20:27

Missed the surname. Martha Carter isn't great.

Howtohideasausage · 31/07/2023 20:29

Harriet

Finlay

DuchessOfSausage · 31/07/2023 20:38

Boys names:
Morgan James - Morgan the organ
Perry Alexander - Kevin & Perry
Archie James - don't like Archie
Finlay George - ok, Finlay's a bit wet
Rudi James - best of the bunch
Frankie John James - don't like Frankie

I love James but it's a go to filler middle name
I like John
Alexander and George are ok

Girls:
I don't like Rae unless it's the surname. James is a boy's name

Harriet (nn Hattie)
Charlotte
Martha
Bonnie
Lottie (not Charlotte, just Lottie)
in that order

ConsuelaHammock · 31/07/2023 20:41

Alexander George
Martha or Harriet - not fond of Rae
what about Martha Elizabeth /Martha Jane

ps I have a Martha so I’m biased but it’s a beautiful name.

ConsuelaHammock · 31/07/2023 20:44

Alexander is timeless. My youngest brother is Alexander and it’s one of my favourite names. When I was pregnant when my youngest I was hoping for twin boys . One would have been Alexander George.

Leeds2 · 31/07/2023 20:45

From your suggested names, I prefer George, James and Alexander for boys. And Harriet (without the Rae) for a girl. I like Martha but, as others have said, not with the surname Carter.

Mammyloveswine · 31/07/2023 20:54

I like Finlay George!

shoopshoopdedoo · 31/07/2023 20:58

From your list I think Finlay George is OK but I’m not keen on the other boy combination options. I’d choose Alexander with one of James, John or George in the middle. Perhaps I’m a bit boring…

I like all of your girl names, although personally I prefer Lottie as a nickname for Charlotte. I‘m not sure Martha can be used with Carter. Rae is OK but I much prefer James as a middle name if it has family significance. I wouldn’t use it as a first name but I think you can be a bit more random with a middle as no one really uses them! So, Harriet James or Bonnie James would be my picks.

PackettInn · 31/07/2023 21:00

What does everybody think of Rudi George?

I thought Martha Carter went in my head but I've just said it out loud and I'm not sure. I still love it though.

Thanks for your opinions so far?

I think my 3 favourites in no order are:
Perry
Rudi
Morgan

ThreeRingCircus · 31/07/2023 21:00

Anything James Carter just reminds me of the American president so I wouldn't go for that. I like Perry or Finlay.

For girls I love Harriet but really not keen on Rae.

ThreeRingCircus · 31/07/2023 21:02

Rudi is a no from me as Rudey where I'm from is slang for sex.

TheYear2000 · 31/07/2023 21:28

I'd vote for Finlay Alexander for a boy. Morgan makes me think of JP Morgan the bank, Perry I just don't like at all. Archie I'd prefer if it was short for Archibald. Rudi is a "a message to you Rudi" the ska song and seems a bit incongruous with your other choices? Of which several have a Scottish twinge?

Harriet and Martha are good names although those of us with speech defects may mispronounce Martha as Marfa. I like Bonnie girl but I'd pity an awkward teenage or at all shy adult Bonnie. Lottie is fine but why not charlotte to open up more options for the child?

Staygoldponyboystaygold · 31/07/2023 21:29

How about John Alexander? I love the name John, it’s a good strong name. John Carter sounds great! One of my children is a John.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 31/07/2023 21:46

Harriet Rae is my new top choice.

I don't really love any of the boys' names.

Arewehumanorarewecupboards · 31/07/2023 21:57

Not keen on Perry, Archie or Frankie.

Boys in order of most liked:

Morgan James
Rudi James
Finlay George (although I would go for James rather than George as James is great)

What about Wesley?

Girls:

Not a fan on Bonnie.

In order of favourites:

Lottie Rae (not Charlotte, just Lottie)
Martha Rae
Harriet Rae (nn Hattie)

How about Eliza? Definitely use James as a middle name!

Dombasle · 31/07/2023 22:04

Boys names:
Morgan James - there is a female singer with this name.
Perry Alexander - I don't like Perry at all.
Archie James - ok
Finlay George
Rudi James - "a message to you, Rudy! no!
Frankie John James - lovely.

Girls:
Harriet Rae (nn Hattie) - not bad.
Lottie Rae (not Charlotte, just Lottie) - okish
Martha Rae - lovely.
Bonnie Rae - too country and western.

Bobje · 31/07/2023 22:08

Love Harriet.

How about James John, or John James for a boy?

Baaaaaa · 31/07/2023 22:56

Lottie Rae Carter has a lovely flow.
