Frozen pizza or boiled meat?

To feed 18 on holiday.

My heart says make a Bollito Misto while I have enough mouths to justify all that meat ( & a poached chicken & turkish rice & boiled veg & broth & crusty bread).

Head says that people will ‘expect’ junky picky bits like frozen pizza & chips - even if that will actually be more stressful to juggle in the oven for that quantity

Very very sick of both pasta and sandwiches. Literally nowhere delivers eg pizza to here - & no car after morning supermarket run.

How can poached chicken sound disgusting? Am genuinely baffled 😮 🤷‍♀️

You think boiled chicken sounds nice?

It sounds bland and a bit rank to me.

Poached chicken, boiled veg, sounds super bland.

Poached chicken has great texture but it's more of an ingredient for a salad or other dish rather than just sitting there as a pale, flaccid centrepiece.

Really? It just looks like a plate of tender mixed meats to me!

I think it would be nice served with dauphinoise potatoes and some lightly steamed green veg.

OP, I hope you enjoyed your dinner, whatever it was!

I wonder if this would sound more appealing to fussy eaters if translated as simmered meat rather than boiled meat. Poached chicken is delicious. So is boiled gammon. They come out lovely and moist.

Is that what it is? Dear God, I googled and thought it was a stew and those were the ingredients.

I'm sorry but if someone served that up I wouldn't be eating. Is that boiled crackling ffs?

Yeah that looks like boiled pig skin to me......barf......

The idea of bollito misto is bringing back grim memories of eating (mainly resisting) boiled tongue as a child. The texture ... eurgh, big cow tongue. This was the 80s not the 40s, no idea why my parents subjected us to this kind of thing.

Teenagequeenwithaloadedgun · 01/08/2023 03:07

If the bollito misto resembles anything like those photos then Dear God not that.

There have to be more options than congealed corpse vs pizza.

jackstini · 01/08/2023 03:13

I would go roasted meats, then the rice, breads & chips (does it have to be chips? I'd do potatoes over those)

Have you got a bbq? An air fryer?

Temperature of country you are serving in?

I had to google Bollito misto, not sure why so many people are turning their noses up at it, google says it's an Italian version of pot au feu, which I love! Okay, it's not pretty, but it's very tasty. If possible I'd cook both. Once you've got the stew on the go it will happily keep warm and you can cook the pizzas as and when.
