Condenser tumble dryer in cupboard?

We have a big square cupboard in our house. The cupboard is maybe 7ft by 5ft and it's carpeted.

My question is, would it be ok to keep my condenser tumble dryer in it or would it be a fire risk?

We only use the tumble dryer when we are at home during the day. We use it a lot daily.

I have both my washing machine and tumble drier stacked in a cupboard smaller than that. Never been an issue. I usually just leave the cupboard door open when using the tumble drier

When we lived in our previous flat we had the condenser dryer in a similar size cupboard. We used to leave the door open if it was on as it generated enough heat to heat the whole flat!

I wouldn't put it on carpet.

As PP, we have our tumble in a cupboard smaller than that but ours has louvred doors for ventilation/air circulation. It is on vinyl rather than carpet.
Most of the fire risk relates to the minimum distance required around the machine and cleaning out the fluff filter regularly and religiously.

Mine is under the stairs in a cupboard.

like others I keep the door open and only use it when I’m about.

Thanks all very much appreciated

DH has just found a rubber mat made for appliances that you can buy to sit on the carpet then put the tumble dryer on top. It's £13 so going to buy that as a extra measure.

I lost my smell during covid times so a bit paranoid incase I don't smell smoke Confused

I viewed a couple of houses that had put the tumble dryers in the upstairs hall cupboard, a clever idea I thought!

I had a compact tumble drier on a wardrobe - it was absolutely fine but obviously left the door open when it was in use and only used it when I was in the property.

To add, they stopped making this size of tumble drier which was so stupid. It was a great drier and smaller than the standard size and fitted perfectly into a fitted wardrobe.

My washer/dryer is in a cupboard just about six inches extra all around. The guy who installed didn't say anything about it.

Diorinthecountryy · 30/07/2023 22:16

@Pinkitydrinkity that is a good idea to get all those extra steps in Grin

@mondaytosunday thank you. I am now thinking should I turn it into a little utility room Confused

@m00rfarm that does sound like a handy size. Keeps it out the way also. Pitty they stopped making them.
