Paying by card at tolls

I need to take another trip on the M6 toll soon. Last time, I really struggled to reach the machine to tap my card. I was parked right up to the edge and ended up having to remove my seatbelt and open my door to reach far enough.

Does anyone have any tips on how to manage it better next time? Cash is no longer an option.

Can you fix the card ( assuming it’s contactless we’re talking about ) to a selfie stick ?

I think it's just practice. I have used the M6 toll dozens of times and never had this issue. Do you have a problem with spatial awareness? If you're one of those people who always park a couple of feet away from the kerb, then maybe you need to think about how you judge distances. You can always drive up close enough, and then just need to open your window fully.

What are you driving that you can’t reach? I can only assume you aren’t as close as you think you are.

I'm short and manage it, but I suppose a lot depends on the height of your car (mine is higher than average I think). Bump your seat up so you're higher.

You're probably not getting as close as you think to the machine. I wouldn't be able to open the door and get out when I'm using toll/parking barrier machines. Practise driving closer to an immovable object.

Otherwise, who cares if you find it easier to quickly get out? Nobody.

It’s better for those waiting behind if you open your door rather than hold your card with your fingertips, drop it under your car and then spend the next ten minutes scrabbling around trying to get it 😂

You can’t do contactless at the m6 toll. I discovered the hard way a few weeks back!

I went both ways last week and neither toll let me do contactless.

on way way down they had to send me a text message so I could pay later. I was prepared on the way back!

Yes you can, and for quite a few years actually. It does have to be a physical card though rather than Apple Pay etc.

My car is a sports car so very low so I have to make sure I pull up really close and then I still have to really stretch up to tap my card.

If you can't reach, just open your door and step out a little.
