Car troubles!

Hi all. Long story short -
Bought a new (used) car in January, Mini Countryman for 6k for a car sales garage
Had nothing but trouble with it (taken it back for numerous reasons both in and out of warranty - had 3 months warranty, now obviously out of it), biggest issue now is there's black smoke that randomly appears from the bonet every now and again and a horrible burning smell when this happens
Garage (I've now learnt) doesn't have the best reputation, but in all fairness they've been very helpful at trying to resolve the issues I've had
But, regarding the smoke, they cannot find the problem, nor can another garage I've taken it to, they've said as soon as they get a courtesy car in they will come and pick my Mini up to drive it until this smoke happens so a mechanic can assess what's happening
However, I can't help but feel concerned that I've been sold a car that's potentially dangerous and I'm scared to drive it as I have a 3 yr old and 5 month old. I have relayed this to them.

Do I have any rights here to ask for my money back? Or, is it just a case of bad luck? What would you do in this situation? It's aggregating my anxiety and I feel nervous every time I talk to them. I just dont want the car anymore it's causing so much stress.

6k is not a lot for a mini countryman - what year is it? I think the very old engines are known to give bother, but they changed to bmw engines at some point and from then on minis became much more reliable. (Sorry I can't help with specifics, my DH works in this area so I've picked up some random car knowledge over the years)

When you buy a used car from a dealer they have to provide a short warranty (longer if it's an approved Mini dealership) which it sounds like they have. Wear and tear isn't covered under that, and if they've offered to fix it I think that's all they're legally required to do, as long as the car wasn't missold to you and they can prove it was in a saleable condition.

It's a 61 plate, 90k. I'm just not sure whether I should part X it or not really...

Check the likes of we buy any car maybe? They're giving pretty high prices for used cars. You might get more than a trade in price?

61 plate is old. I mean cars can last 15 years if well maintained. Thing is they are sooo expensive now. My Yaris is 60 plate and was 5k 5 years old.
If I were you I’d part exchange it for something that is no more than 5 years old and no more than 30.000 miles . They are expensive but you have a very high chance the car will have another 8-10 years on it. That’s what I’m doing . Old cars ( unless you are lucky someone took great care of them) have problems .
mine is 13 years old almost 200k , my friend has a 14 years old punto and another friend a 13 years old fiesta ..all at garage pretty often .My mum punto is almost 18 years old but she works with mechanics so get loads of jobs and parts for free..
is it your main car ? You can get a 4 seat for 8-9 k with a 69 plate .
