Non resident driving insurance

Sorry, this is so dull.

I'm from Northern Ireland but live in Italy. I have a Northern Irish licence as, up until recently, it was possible to drive in Italy with it until they came up with a post Brexit deal. I can now exchange it for an Italian licence but never got around to it. I drive and am on the insurance. My husband sorted it all out as he does the vast majority of driving.

We are home for a holiday and I need to drive later this evening so I need short term insurance. The car belongs to my mother in law who is on hols, so I don't want to disturb her to get added to the insurance. I've looked up short term insurance and it's v expensive and you have to be a UK resident, which I'm not. I'm resident in Italy.

My husband says I might be covered under the Italian insurance but his laptop is broken so he can't get access to the policy.

Any ideas how if I can drive my mother in law's car on my fully comp European insurance? Or if there is an insurance that suits someone who still has an NI licence but isn't resident here?

Sorry for the dull message. As you were!
