How to prepare your house before carpet fitting

Alright, so we've got this new carpet that's about to be fitted in our four-bed townhouse. The carpet fitters are coming on Tuesday. It's a three-storey house, so we're getting a new carpet fitted on the two flight of stairs and in all the 4 bedrooms.
Now, here's the tricky bit. We've got a fair bit of furniture in the house. In two of the larger bedrooms, we've got wardrobes, a telly cabinet, and a television. The other two bedrooms each have a single bed and wardrobe. The fitters have asked us to clear out the rooms as much as we can, which is fair enough, but it's easier said than done, right?
So, I'm scratching my head a bit, wondering how to shift all this stuff around. How do I get the house ready for the carpet fitting to make their job a bit easier? It's a bit of a puzzle, but we'll get it sorted."

If they do the stairs and landing, can you move furniture on to the landing, so they can do bedrooms? Or move the single bedrooms furniture into one and then into the carpeted one when that’s been done.

You’ll have to shift stuff in between the rooms as they’re done — clear stuff out of the first bedroom, stick it all in bedroom 2, move it back into bedroom 1 when that’s done etc. Furniture Jenga.

Are the bedrooms across two different floors? Are there condor/landing areas that aren’t being carpeted where you can put furniture?

Corridor, not ‘condor’!

Just wondering, do I need to clear out all the wardrobes and divan beds, you know, the ones full of bedding and stuff? I can empty the wardrobes, but moving all the stuff from the divan bed is a big ask

Can you not just take the divan drawers out and move them? We did that with ours.

Sorry, it's not a divan bed but it's an Ottoman bed. All four beds are ottoman bed so I can't take the drawer out.

We did it over two days- cleared half of the rooms completely one day so they could fit it in then the other rooms the next day.

They're there to fit the floor, not move your stuff. You're expected to do that

Littlefish · 30/07/2023 14:34

Yes, you need to get everything out of the beds or they will be too heavy to move.

AvidBookAndCatCollector · 30/07/2023 14:35

Move it all the landing while they do the bedrooms, once that's done make them a cuppa while you quickly move it all back to the bedrooms. Only way to do it!

DelphiniumBlue · 30/07/2023 14:39

Ask them what order they will be doing the rooms in. Empty the ottomans and put the contents somewhere else - bathroom?

Soapyspuds · 30/07/2023 14:50

Move the items into various other rooms that are not having a new carpet. Am I missing something?
