Husband has embarrassing condition

I've name changed as I don't want to link to other posts but DH last night told me for the past 5 weeks or so he has found that his private area has a weird/ unpleasant smell that has come out of the blue and he can't narrow down what could be causing it. I haven't noticed at all but he said when he pull boxers down he can smell the smell. For context he is extremely clean and showers multiple times a day so it's not a hygienic issue. He seems to think it's coming from his testicule rather than his penis. Any ideas if there's a condition that could be causing it?

Have either of you had a look?
Suggest a trip to a GUM clinic or the GP

pjsjjdbrbejai · 30/07/2023 13:50

I had a smell ( I know that sounds weird) but couldn't smell now granted he was just out of the shower at the time so maybe it was too early to tell

If he’s showering multiple times a day it’s probably very warm and damp down there for much of the day. A perfect place for bacteria to grow. He’ll have the ball equivalent of athletes foot (I think it’s called Jock Itch?). But he needs to go to the doctors.

Ah I never thought that maybe he isn't drying himself enough after the shower! He is usually putting clothes on when he's still half wet, this could be the cause

Why is he showering multiple times a day, and could it be something to do with the soap or shower gel he uses?

He plays sports and generally gets very warm so usually would have a cool shower to cool down. The shower gel is the ones that we normally use so I don't think it's that. Im thinking it could be jock itch but it's causing more of a smell than itch

It's probably a yeast infection similar to athlete's foot or thrush, but he'd be better off asking a GP or a pharmacist.

Dillydollydingdong · 30/07/2023 14:11

I hate to suggest it but could it be a STI?

Lucy377 · 30/07/2023 14:22

Get some Daktarin powder and use it after the shower.
If he's extremely clean is he a bit fixated on that, and thus is he sensitive to smells and tastes than some people might be.

Jock itch

He needs to get on top of it as it can spread and it is highly infectious.

Dombasle · 30/07/2023 14:43

Perhaps he has 'Swamp Crotch'?

C1N1C · 30/07/2023 14:45

Could be an allergy, a new washing powder etc?

And I second the above suggestion... it COULD be a deflection... telling you it smells, owning up to it so you're not suspicious when in fact it's an STI.

CKL987 · 30/07/2023 14:45

If there was a risk of an STI I doubt OP's partner would be mentioning the smell, he'd be trying to keep it hidden.

I don't think so. I did ask him if he had any discharge etc from penis and he said no. Plus he's working from home and under my feet for the last year 😂

most likely explanation is a yeast infection. Put on some gloves and check the folds and crevices of skin for redness and irritation. Probably easier to spot before a shower as it can tend to glisten a bit.

Twyford · 30/07/2023 15:07

How is he both working from home and doing so much sports that he has to shower multiple times a day?

JudgeRudy · 30/07/2023 15:11

I'm going with a yeast infection however if you can't smell anything on him, and haven't noticed any strange smells coming from his dirty laundry or eg first thing in the morning before he washes...then maybe he doesn't actually smell. Lots of people who had covid have reported changes to their sense of smell. Could that be the case?

KateJohns · 30/07/2023 15:12

Fungus.

Grows in the dark and damp.

Shower less and powder more. Medicated powder from Boots etc or Ball Sack stuff by a company called 'Below The Belt'

dontgobaconmyheart · 30/07/2023 15:20

Why can he not just speak with a doctor about it though, if it is worrisome to him and has a recent onset? Why does he shower multiple times a day?

I can say that I wouldn't be sniffing my DP's genitals on request (or offering) and trying to diagnose him or monitor whether he's able to dry his testicles properly or is washing ineffectively when he's an adult. I would ask that he go to the GP and let them investigate/take a swab/check his urine etc and wouldn't have sex with him until any screening returned clear or direct him to Google for preventative tips.

It could be anything, yeast infection, changes in body odour as a result of hormones, an STI, or just nothing at all and his sense of smell has changed.

StartSWagaintomorrow · 30/07/2023 15:22

Probably fungal get cream from pharmacist. Is it itchy in his ball area? BTW everyone starts stinking as they age JSYK.

StartSWagaintomorrow · 30/07/2023 15:23

BTW I have no issues sniffing any part of my husband if he asks l. I love him.

Huh?? What age should I expect to start being stinky then? I'm in my 40's.

NosinaBook · 30/07/2023 15:34

He needs to go to a doctor, don't have unprotected sex with him until he rules out STI's.

BaroldBalonz · 30/07/2023 15:38

See if there is any area, even really small in a crease somewhere, that looks a bit pink and shiny prior to his shower. If so, wash and dry it well and sudocream will probably fix it.

Also check his belly button and treat as above
