Good city to visit in SW/Midlands?

I periodically have to visit Devon for work reasons, from my home in Paris, and usually fly into Bristol and catch the train down to Devon.

It takes the best part of a day door to door so I usually spend a night or two in Bristol on the way home, do some shopping on the high street and a bit of sightseeing.

Having done this quite a few times (including Bath) I’m thinking it would be nice to fly out from a different city but I’m wondering where. Manchester? Birmingham? Cardiff? What’s an airport city with a good high street and cultural activities/museums/stuff to explore? I don’t want to rent a car.

(In an ideal world I would get the train home the whole way but the cost is prohibitive.)

What do you recommend?

Manchester? Birmingham? Cardiff?

Yes, yes, and yes!

Any of those cities would keep you nicely occupied.

Yes to all 3!
Depending on when you’re going Brum has a lot of stuff on for the commonwealth games anniversary. Then there’s heritage stuff at landmarks in September too 🙂

great connections in Brum and being central you can go pretty much anywhere

Good public transport in Birmingham. Lots to see and do.
