Fb marketplace

Hi, I'm just after some advice if possible?

There's something that my son would like for his birthday but I can't afford to buy it new. I've seen it on fb marketplace for a fraction of the price that it is new - it's a total bargain and almost too good to be true!

However it's about 300 miles away so I can't collect it. The seller said he'd post it which is great.

But he doesn't have PayPal so he'd like me to transfer the money. I know I'd be a bit protected with PayPal, but feel that a transfer is a bit risky? Especially as the item seems to be such a bargain!

The profile seems ok, he joined fb in 2022 and has other things for sale but I am a bit of a worrier!

No way would I be doing this, you have absolutely no guarantee and fb marketplace is a breeding ground for scammers!

Do not transfer money this way.
I got caught out with this when I was extremely sleep deprived with DD2. My bank did refund me the money but I had to open a police investigation. A total nightmare and a very embarrassing lesson learned.

No way. I’ve bought things on eBay like prams where we managed to agree on postage, but it was all through PayPal, and I personally arranged the courier too so I knew it was coming. This sounds too risky
