My ex's family washed their teeth. I found it really weird. Brush or clean for me. TV, telly or whatever - have no issue with that one

Watch telly (I'm from the North East) and brush my teeth. I've never heard anyone describe it as washing their teeth.

bananaboats · 29/07/2023 22:05

Oliesjola · 29/07/2023 22:10

PuppyMonkey · 29/07/2023 22:17

Washing teeth. Grin

ComeTheFckOnBridget · 29/07/2023 22:19

Brush teeth.

Names for TV depend on my mood and whether I'm feeling facetious or not. Anything from tv/telly/television to the box/telly box

8008less · 29/07/2023 22:21

@Oliesjola My husband says “pour a bath”. Completely bizarre.

My husband says “wash my teeth” too! 😁

If dentures wash but if teeth brush.
Always telly.

So do you close/open the curtains or draw the curtains ?

Errolwasahero · 29/07/2023 22:30

Thingy. For everything. Also as in ‘do the thing’ Watch the thingy. Where is the thingy. Have you done the thing.

we always know what we’re on about. We’re quite good together.

merryhouse · 29/07/2023 22:32

I'm listening to the wireless ;-)

Brush or clean my teeth, possibly depending on context.

Not sure how I refer to the Devil's Plaything in the corner... watch telly? watch something on television? watch tv?

Actually I don't think I do. I watch a comedy, or a panel show, or [a particular programme], or the Sunday matinee (going back to visiting Granny here) or the news...

merryhouse · 29/07/2023 22:32

Draw the curtains.

TortolaParadise · 29/07/2023 22:41

Draw the curtains.

Snap!

SeriousFaffing · 29/07/2023 22:43

ElFupacabra · 29/07/2023 20:39

Brush teeth. Washing teeth sounds bizarre. Clean teeth fair enough, no idea why washing sounds wrong.

Watch telly. Change the channel with the gadget.

@ElFupacabra sames but change the channel with ‘the buttons’.

Nowt wrong with pour a bath. You’ll be telling me next I can’t have a bacon butty for my tea!

MotorOilHeiress · 29/07/2023 22:53

We have a doofer. In this house as it will Do for this and do for that. Eg remote control. Brush or clean teeth. Run a bath.
And " put wood in t'hole" for shut the door.

cocksstrideintheevening · 29/07/2023 23:09

Brush teeth - washing them sounds like you take them out to wash and put them back in again.

Watch TV

PollyannaWhittier · 29/07/2023 23:14

TortolaParadise · 29/07/2023 22:29

If dentures wash but if teeth brush.
Always telly.

So do you close/open the curtains or draw the curtains ?

Draw the curtains = close, pull the curtains = open. I'm aware this isn't universal language as it has caused confusion on more than one occasion Grin
