First bra or bralette for DD (10)

My DD is 10 (going in to P6 in Scotland) and is starting to develop.

Can anyone recommend a bra or bralette for her?

I'm not sure she will want to wear a bra yet, but have seen these bra-letters in M&S, Next etc.

Any suggestions for her?

The crop tops are popular and seem to be most usually worn by this age group. I quite fancy one myself! I think for adult women we have moved on from the idea that everything needs to have underwire and be mega supportive, and many women now use wireless more comfy bras. So I’m thinking to keep my DD in crop tops as long as she isn’t asking for a move up. She doesn’t seem to give a damn!

interested in any recommendations for what’s next though.

I got my daughter some crop tops from primark and she loves them

We got https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B0B1PRWNX1?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title and https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B09NQCBFY5?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

Just a point, my girls said that for school purposes it's good to have some plain white ones so they don't show through

I’ve bought DD12 a couple of Mindful Seamless Bras from Sweaty Betty in the sale and she loves them. So soft and comfortable.

My 11 year old wears the crop top type but when should they start getting a proper fitted bra?

ProseccoOnTap · 29/07/2023 13:42

Yes, they will need to be white at school polo shirts are that colour.

I think I'll take her shopping during the week & try some on.

I've heard others talk about bra fittings but feel she is too young for that.

Unless she has proper breaks I would not take her for a bra fitting, crop tops are perfect for the breast buds stage

Catsanfan · 29/07/2023 13:45

Breasts not breaks...

Bra fittings are about her body not her age. There is no such thing as too young if this is what she needs.
Some 10 year olds will need a proper bra, others will be totally fine in crop tops.

Primark do seam-free crop tops which are ideal for this age, they have racer backs and are quite sporty and my DD has worn them for a year or so and finds them fine for daily wear and even quite vigorous sports. They do them in white and black.

I've got some really nice fully cotton Superdry bralettes from TKMaxx. I though I was 20 years too old for Superdry, but I love them.

My dd wore the Gilly Hicks bralettes from Hollister and still wears them as a young adult. The girl who served her the first time knowingly said once you start wearing them you never want to wear anything else because they’re so comfortable soft and pretty. She was right in my dd’s case.

Keep communication open. Just let your dd know she can have a bra when she wants one (or when you think she needs one). The first bras are incredibly soft. I bought dd the Angel range part way through year 7 so she was 11. As for being fitted, if your dd is reluctant to have someone help, they’re so soft that as long as they’re comfy and look ok it’s fine. I fitted her (and her friend) myself as it’s pretty easy once you know how.

A beige or nude bra shows less through white than a white bra. Odd but true.

reluctantbrit · 29/07/2023 15:18

Crop tops are fine at that age. Beige, nude or pale pink are good under white.

DD started complaining about her breast during riding and musical dance, we got her then proper bras and then later proper sport bras for it.

She wore the M&S Angle range first and then a soft cup from their adult range, she inherited the larger bust all her female relatives on both sides have.

She is now 16 and tries underwire, her own choice and she thinks they are more comfortable.
