Where can I find the perfect ring?

50th birthday coming up, and I'd like to treat myself to a ring. The problem is that I only have approx £150 to spend, and I'd like something that's quirky, will fit my fat fingers, and won't tarnish easily. Any suggestions please?

Karst Jewellery and other second hand suppliers have lovely rings around that price point.

Happy to second second hand/antique jewellers. I have been known to go in and say “I have 120 pounds and twenty minutes. What have you got?” I came out with a pair of divine earrings and another pair which are very nice. Oh, and I won’t forget that twenty minutes of poking through pretties. That was nice in itself.

Ebay for antiques is my go to - i much prefer the gold colour from old gold, and jewellery is like cars in that it drops 80% of it’s price the moment it is first sold.

Non tarnish

Guest at a summer wedding with media types in attendance. I’m slim and in my fifties. What to wear to look stylish? And should I go with facinator, sunhat and glasses, or bare head?

Are you near London? Gray's Antiques Market near Bond Street station has a huge selection of jewellery from different eras.

Oh gosh. That's awful. The worst piece of jewellery I've ever seen.

It looks like an arsehole. They describe it as an icebreaker...

Definitely try antique shops and ebay. Obviously do your research for the latter.

Justkeepingplatesspinning · 29/07/2023 15:03

Try Sheila Fleet and Ortak. They both do made to order rings in your price bracket and designs are lovely.

Good advice!

Etsy, for both vintage and new rings by small jewellery makers. The algorithm will start recommending similar styles once you've favourited a few items.

Crepesandconans · 29/07/2023 19:38

🐵I think that is a lovely red ring🐵🇯🇵🇯🇵ha ha ha

'pretties' 😁😍
Any chance of a pic of those divine earrings.
I may have a thing for fabulous earrings...

Have you looked at Kit Heath? Classic, contemporary sterling silver jewellery inspired by nature and North Devon. I bought myself a ring for my 40th and found the matching pendant on Ebay for my 50th.
