When do DRIVING TEST slots get released?

Ds2 is looking to book having passed his theory but the only availability we can find are short notice ones ones (so can't be then deferred without losing the fee/booking) too far away to be of any use.

Just wondering if new slots are released on a certain day?

My dd was told 6am Monday mornings… she logged in and got a test booked 2 months away. This was last year though.

We've now found some Nov & Dec slots on the other side of the country.
From what we are reading on the cancellation apps he should be able to book and then put the booking on HOLD and then use that on hold booking for cancellations.
Can anyone confirm?
