Not in fashion

Following on from a previous thread, I’ve come to realise that the majority of my clothes just aren’t in fashion anymore. I have so many pairs of skinny jeans, that are low waisted.

Have spent a lot of money over the years on nice heels and have invested in smart pieces.

Now all that is in is high waisted jeans, the less formal look and trainers. None of which are my wardrobe.

I can’t really afford an entire new wardrobe and I begrudge having to spend yet more money to keep up with the current fashion trends.

Do you think the current look is here to stay or will we ever go back to low cut jeans etc?

I will add that the one change I don’t mind is heels. I hated wearing them in the office and on nights out but am mourning the money I’ve spent on them for them to just sit in the closet.

Nothing I wear really is or isn't in fashion and I don't really care tbh. I just dress in what I can fit into and doesn't make me look like a football.

I think you should wear what you like.
In fact I saw a 20 something lad wearing skinnies today.

Do you like the jeans and do they suit your shape? If so wear them!

I'm short and a bit dumpy so any loose mum jeans and baggy styles looks awful on me and to be fair even skinny's make me look like a turnip so I've just changed to midi skirts, loose trousers and dresses, way more comfy!

Why do you need to be in fashion? What happens when the current fashion doesn't suit you at all, or you simply don't care for it?

EmpressaurusOfCats · 29/07/2023 05:38

Thinking about it, I don’t really know if most of my stuff is in fashion. I know I’m comfortable in it.

Did you really spend loads of money on shoes you hated wearing, OP?

Alighttouchonthetiller · 29/07/2023 06:11

Wear what you are comfortable in (obvs not just a swimming costume or pyjamas). Sell your shoes. Buy more comfortable ones.

Fashion is just a marketing & capitalist concept. Sure, it’s nice to feel stylish but but don’t worry too much about it, you are just putting money in some fat cat’s pocket!

I think the closest I get to fashion-conscious is my collection of tops from Standing for Women, Wild Womyn Workshop, Women’s Rights Network etc.

You could just wear what you like and not be someone who believes in harming the planet via fast fashion.

CountTo10 · 29/07/2023 12:51

I don't understand this just wearing what's in fashion. I wear what I like and what suits me. I thought that was the wisdom which came with age. I understand teenagers wanting to wear the latest fashion and often looking awful because it doesn't suit them but not a grown woman.

Buildingthefuture · 29/07/2023 12:59

Who cares? Where what you like and you think looks good. I look vile in high waisted jeans, I own 2 pairs of trainers (one for the gym, one fashion brand) and about 40 pairs of expensive heels. I still wear heels when I want to and will be buried in them. I’m meeting friends today and wearing a jumpsuit and some lovely new high heeled wedges. I give not single shit if it’s fashionable, I feel good in it and that’s that.

Sorry *Wear not where!!!
