Shoe smell remedy anyone?

SWnewstart · 28/07/2023 20:03

Just received a lovely paid of soft leather strappy mules from Vinted - the problem is they reek of smoke. Does anyone have any tips for getting rid of this smell (or even just reducing it). If they were proper shoes I'd stuff them with Febreeze sprayed tissues or similar but obviously this won't work with strappy sandals. Currently outside in the fresh air. Could I wipe down with warm soapy water? Would this help?

Dry tea bags placed in a plastic bag tied up for a few days, they should adsorbed it

Dry tea bags, oh really? Well definitely worth a try! Any other possible remedies out there?

Ripe bananas. Put shoes and ripe (nearly black) bananas in a plastic bag and tie it up for a few days.

Stick them in a bowl of soapy water with a bit of zoflora.
That stuff can stop anything from smelling

Yes, I've heard tea bags as well. If they're extra stinky put two in.

MargosMangos · 28/07/2023 20:33

That would make them go dry & brittle when they dry @eatdrinkandbemerry , you'd have to saddle soap them afterwards

Baking soda in a muslin stuffed inside. Cinnamon is good for smoke smells so add some of that.

If all else fails, you'll smell autumnal.

Brilliant ideas - I'll have a go at the tea bags, bananas, baking soda and cinnamon - not totally confident about washing them. Thanks all.

Banana bread and a cup of tea. Lovely Grin

Sprinkle them inside with Bicarb and put them in a plastic bag for a week. Hopefully it should absorb the smell.

They'll smell of over ripe Bananas instead of smoke. Which would you prefer 😏
