What’s your daily routine/‘good’ habits? Need inspiration!

Prompted by another thread (about Morning Pages).

I’d love to know your regular routines, things that you do daily or weekly, to look after your mental or physical wellbeing.

I’m seeking a bit of inspiration, I’m stuck in a rut and want to try some new things. I also need to find new motivation for the old things!

Tell me whatever you like about your wake-up time, breakfast/lunch/snacks, writing, exercise, reading, grooming, meditation, and anything else you do regularly and (mostly) enjoy and benefit from. What do you do, when, for how long? I’m all ears. 🙏 (Doesn’t need to be “that girl” type stuff, just whatever you do that works for you. If it’s half an hour of Jeremy Kyle during breakfast that sets you up for the day, I still want to know.)

I drink 0.5l (sparkling) water at breakfast - sort of replaced my cup of tea (I'll have coffee at work). I never drink enough water.

For the past 12 weeks I’ve got up an hour earlier than the kids/than I need and walked around the garden or around the lounge (now doing 20,000 steps throughout the day). Unable to actually go for a walk due to kids and vision issues so this means that even if I sit at the computer all day I’ve been physically active. It means an early night too as I get up around 5/5.30 (in bed by 9.30).

I prep the coffee machine the night before, switch the machine on and 19 mins later it’s made. I drink only water & black coffee all morning and eat for the first time at lunchtime.

taking marine collagen and now religiously washing face at night before bed when I was rubbish before; and using up the gazillion different serums and oils I’ve bought in the past and not used.

I’ve also started this week listening to ‘glucose goddess’ on various podcasts, and will be doing more and more of her ‘hacks’; already ‘clothe’ sugar in protein/fat/fibre, will be doing the vinegar thing and also working on very limited gluten/carbs (do have rice and potatoes but bread sporadically). Feel loads better from this and have pretty much removed sugar cravings (as long as I stay off the slippery slope in the first place. Peanut butter on apple slices or yoghurt and berries if I need something sweet)

I am caffeine free after midday (decaf tea, no coke etc) which helps my sleep

i sound like one of ‘those’ people but I’m really not; I just finally realise now (at 47) what works and what is going to be enjoyable for 5 mins but then makes me feel shitty the next day. I don’t drink alcohol now apart from the odd glass, and if I do I’m better when I have it earlier in the evening. I miss it but it’s just not worth it these days as I feel so bad.

HRT since age 42 has changed my life (an ongoing process of tweaking and paying private but can’t imagine functioning without)

since the cost of living has risen so massively, and since working from home I no longer buy mid range clothes; I’m getting more comfortable and confident in not needing new, and trying to tell myself that others don’t judge me the way I think they do. Better for the wallet and the environment (and clutter!)

@siblingrevelryagain thanks for that!

I’m not sure what you mean by mid-range
clothes? Am not really up on clothing types I guess. I tend to buy fairly pricey things and then wear them to death, I don’t have many clothes though.

I need to come up with a new skincare routine, I’ve never been very good at that side of things. Any faves or tips?

I put on insight timer (free app) in the morning to listen to an affirmation or positive morning track whilst I do my make up. I also have a cup of valerian and lavender tea before bed, which is the only thing that has managed to stop me waking up at 4am and thinking about work, since I started my most recent job.

Hope you get lots of good advice🙌

I have the Headspace app which has a different morning session every day but this year I’ve lacked the self-discipline to watch it more than once or twice 😬

Sorry; I should have clarified mid-range is a cost thing; I would buy a new top (usually in desperation for an event or work after putting on weight and feeling fat/old), and pay £30/40 each time then realise I have 10 almost identical black tops in varying sizes that I just don’t need. Now I am making a big effort to not buy new things.

the approach you use is what I’m going for; buying better quality less often.
