City break with 5 year old. So much moaning, running off, backchat. I wonder why I bother.

Some of them are awful when away from their comfort zones and routines, aren’t they?

PenguiInaThong · 28/07/2023 13:23

Honestly. He'd rather be at his dad's eating crap on the sofa.

A city break wouldn't be my choice with a five year old tbh.

He's been to all the kid friendly sights but today he's being naughty. Maybe he's just tired.

Yip. They prefer being at home. Save your money and energy for things that are enjoyable and not a jaw clenching endurance test.

Randobelia · 28/07/2023 13:43

Has he had any down time at the hotel? Maybe a couple of hours of TV/phone and then try again?

It's hard when they're tired/hungry/out of sorts.

I wouldn't be taking my five year old on a city break with loads of activities. It's too much for most to handle at that age. I've just come back from a week on the coast. Apart from one booked attraction we just chilled, walks on the beach, out to eat a few times, saw a few nice sights, explored parks. That was it. I tried the whole 'full on ' holiday last year and it was just miserable for both of us.

MovedonfromMartin · 28/07/2023 13:47

I'm with you OP.
Mine are currently pissing me off, arguing with each other and making snide comments.
Set off for our week long UK holiday an hour ago.
It's going to be a v long week.

DietrichandDiMaggio · 28/07/2023 13:50

What city are you in? City breaks aren't really the best choice of holiday for young children, so that makes them a lot harder than a seaside holiday.

SchoolShenanigans · 28/07/2023 13:52

Kids are hard work full stop. At least mine are!

CattingAbout · 28/07/2023 13:55

We're in a holiday cottage. Five year old needs a lot of down time to avoid becoming an overstimulated nightmare so it's 1-2 activities max per day really.

PenguiInaThong · 28/07/2023 14:14

It's exhausting constantly telling him to behave. I can't wait to go home.
