40% tax bracket

Google tells me it starts at around 50k but I've had a letter from the tax man saying it starts at 35k. Have I missed an important piece of information somewhere?

The rates are here. Did your letter maybe say that you get £37k taxed at 20%? You also have your annual allowance.
