B&Q/Wickes for bathroom installation?

BibbleandSqwauk · 28/07/2023 08:26

Hi all. Really need a total bathroom refit. Looking at B&Q etc rather than a tradesperson so I can utilize 0% credit. Wondering if people have positive or negative reviews of their installation services? Many thanks.

We recently had b&q do ours. I had no issue with the fitters themselves and the finished bathroom is great. But the in-store process was poorly done, and the staff were a lesson in incompetence. Plus there were a couple of issues during installation (not with the fitters, with b&q not delivering the right stuff) and getting in touch with them to get it sorted was not easy. Three times over the course of the week it took to install it I had to drive to b&q because that was the only way to get any kind of response from them as the store rarely answered the phone, and if they did there was never the right person available to speak to.

I would NOT recommend it!

Thank you that's useful. I'm a two minute drive from a store but obviously would hope not to have that issue. Friends had their kitchen done by Wickes twice with no issues so I'm more inclined to them.

Not when it comes to getting thousands of pounds of work done, no. Not really relevant.

Wickes are in quite a dodgy place overall. Don’t put down too big a deposit.

We’ve just had b&q install our bathroom. Only the shower, basin and wc were from b&q, but they still fitted the whole bathroom and so far so good.

B&Q have just done a refit on one of our bathrooms. The fitter was excellent and very helpful but couldn't say the same about B&Q. Despite our order being made two months before installation we had problems with the tiles we ordered, they didn't have the ones we wanted in stock but we were assured they would be collected from another store in plenty of time, they eventually turned up the day the fitter started only to discover they were completely the wrong tiles and our chosen ones were no longer available. Our lovely fitter gave us his trade discount for another tile company and we were able to get the original tiles at a huge discount. B&Q didn't want to accept responsibility for their mistake until I had stern words with them and we finally got our money back.

Also one of the unit doors was damaged and had to be exchanged.

We had previously had our kitchen refitted by B&Q with no problems but I wouldn't use them again for anything.

Thanks all. Yes interesting about Wickes' position. I'm a few months off actually doing it I think so I'll keep an eye. It's annoying being tied to doing it this way but with current rates I don't want to borrow the money to pay an independent tradesperson.

Who did you go for in the end @BibbleandSqwauk? In the exact same situation and we've got a Wickes design appointment on Saturday...

BibbleandSqwauk · 28/11/2023 08:23

I've been recommended a local company by my neighbour. I had to remortgage so have the funds up front now allowing me a bit more choice. will be starting the process soon. Good luck!

Hi all,
I know this thread is old but we are starting this now - can anyone tell be if they went with B&q or wickes and how they found it? Or easy bathrooms?

flabbytabby · 12/01/2025 14:43

We went with B&Q in the end and while their design service was faultless the rest of the process ended up being a nightmare- our water pressure has reduced and B&Q are unwilling to do anything about that. I hate them with a passion and wish we'd gone elsewhere. DO NOT GO WITH B&Q.

canyon2000 · 12/01/2025 15:23

We had our bathroom fitted by Wickes. The whole process was a bit of a shambles and our fitter was awful. I really wish we had gone with an independent local fitter.

Twiglets1 · 12/01/2025 16:24

My daughter had a terrible experience with Wickes and their after sales care was non existent.
By contrast we had a pretty good experience with Easy Bathrooms.

B&Q were horrendous. We needed to use the 0% as our bathroom was leaking into the kitchen and, due to the previous owner doing some interesting diy, we needed it refitted.
The finance was the only good part.
We measured our bathroom perfectly then took them to the design team who disregarded the soil stack and we were told not to worry when we brought it up. B&q came to measure up and said it would be fine but they would do another measure just before fitting just incase. This didn't happen.
Gots to fitting and the bathroom didn't fit.
The job was so poor that they actually ended up tearing it all out and refitting it, but managed to knock all the plaster off my bedroom wall in the process. We did get a free bedroom decoration from then as compensation.

It was the worst thing and took months. It should have been a 4 day fit initially and even the initial, bad fit, took 2 weeks because they said the stores planning don't account for timing like letting the tiles set before fitting a shower on top.
The products are OK, except the tiles were not made to be cut and I can see everyon that isn't perfect. I also know when a restaurant has used the same tiles because of the way they're cut too.
I appreciate this is an older thread, but I wouldn't t9uch then ever again. The help wasn't there when needed and they didn't collect any of the leftover stock. When I took it into store, they refused to take it because it came from a warehouse not their physical store. They didn't have a complaints procedure. We thought a bug company meant we'd be a bit safer, especially as they were a which guide best company at the time too.

Do they still do the installations because I thought they'd closed that department down a few years ago?
