Why do they always promise you the moon on a stick, then argue about everything, every step of the way, then charge you more than they quoted?!

I'm so fed up of them. They're EXHAUSTING! 4 different firms we've used over the years and they are all the bloody same 🙄

Devils advocate (and artist/ designer so I may be bias!) but you are the common denominator here. Are you possibly asking a for a lot more than your budget can stretch to? Or asking for more and more and more changes and revisions that weren’t originally factored in here? If this had happened with one firm then you found a better one, fair enough. But for it to happen four times it makes you wonder…

it's like buying a car.
great offer
but as soon as you want more than the most naked model in white then it's ££££ extra. often without the prices being transparent from the start.

That's why we've always built our own and now with AI there's really no need for web designers. We've even consulted AI on fixing most technical issues too.

It's irritating that things discussed in the earlier stages get left out or done differently from how they've been discussed...then they argue with you about changing it. It's just such a tedious process and none of them seem very good at managing it... this means having to check up on a million different things...

These guys are better than the last lot! Just. So. Exhausting.

And NOT cheap!

Did you write anything down? Usually you'd have the functional and non functional requirements documents, plus a scheme of work laying out exactly what is in and out of scope.

Yes companies try to wriggle out of delivering the SOW but you at least need to have one. Without it you're guaranteed to be ripped off!

Unless it's an incredibly complex site you could ask any teenager to make you one for £100. I made mine and I'm not techy at all.

FrontEnd · 27/07/2023 18:46

Just out of interest, what kind of site, complexity and budget were you expecting and was a clear specification agreed?

PickledPurplePickle · 27/07/2023 21:08

What spec has been agreed?
how detailed was your contract?
what sort of things have been omitted?
what sort of price are you paying?
how complicated is the site?
