There was another thread but I think it's full. Anyway,I saw a YouTube video that I think explains the difference between mental load and domestic work perfectly. Laundry is domestic work. The mental load is what has to happen before the laundry goes on. The baby's laundry needs to be separate because she has eczema. Jane needs sports kit on Thursday, but Peter needs his superhero T-shirt for dress up day on Tuesday. James spilled curry on his best shirt so that needs to be stain sprayed. And so on. Putting on a load of laundry and folding it is the domestic labour, and of course should be shared. The thinking that goes before the labour is the mental load and often isn't shared!
