I've Changed My Mind About Carrie Bradshaw AGAIN

I've been watching the new series of And Just Like That, and it's beautiful and expensive to watch but the plots/dialogue/characters are a huge disappointment and a bit of a betrayal to SATC. Of course I'll continue to hate watch, though!

But it inspired me to watch SATC from the start for the millionth time. First time I watched it, as a teenager, I liked them all and was very invested but very much felt Carrie was the main character. At mid twenties, i liked the other 3 a lot more - especially Miranda who I had thought of as too harsh as a teen but now recognised her as the strong woman she was. Early 30s I watched and really disliked Carrie, couldn't understand how I had ever liked her, thought she was selfish and ditzy.

But now, at 40 I am re-watching and maybe it's because she is now 'younger' than me but I love her again. She is self absorbed and makes bad choices but I'm a lot more sympathetic now having made all those mistakes myself! I don't know why she was so demonised - she was trying her best. And, I now see how beautiful she was/is. So many jokes about her being a horse or ugly (that I bought into as a young woman) but she is STUNNING. They all are but I can't believe how much i failed to see it!

The only thing I won't forgive her for is inviting Big to Aidan's cabin - that was bad.

Any Carrie Bradshaw love (or hate)?

I like Carrie too! Always loved her style and figure she has an amazing body but she is selfish though I can identify! I also liked she smoked Marlborough as I used to at the time of watching it (over ten years ago, I've quit now!)

Yes, the condom thing (and the tampons in S1) was ridiculous. And what they have done to Miranda 😢

Adore Carrie (and her wardrobe) but mostly because I just adore SJP.
This latest series could do with just Carrie and none of the other characters. Miranda and Charlotte are now surplus to requirements.

They're like those friends who have massively outgrown each other but still drag themselves along to get together simply because they've been friends "forever".

I love Carrie I've watched it many times over the years. She has made quite a few bad judgments but who hasn't . Not a fan of the new series. Charlotte has had to much work done on her face which I think makes her talk strange? And don't get me started on what the hell they've done to Miranda's character 😱

I’ve always loved Carrie. I made plenty of stupid choices with men in my early 20s so I related to that side of her I guess. But yes she is selfish. I think she is beautiful too, her clothes, hair etc always stunning.

I love her in the early series of SATC. She's so quick-witted and a much more thoughtful friend.

After that though...I don't think I'll ever get past her putting a Post-It on Charlotte's new engagement ring and allowing her a whole, ohhh I don't know, 20 seconds to enjoy her announcement before making it all about her?

Love SJP though and have always thought she was gorgeous since "Flight of the Navigator"

I think Charlotte’s face is probably realistic for her character, so I’m ok with that!

Miranda though… sigh. She was so kick-ass and now she’s this horribly pathetic character. I know people change with age etc but not their entire personality! What I don’t understand is why the writers didn’t improve this for series 2, because it was a huge criticism of series 1

I loved Carrie. I didn’t watch it again to dislike her but I was probably pretty selfish and unlikeable at times when I was younger too. (Obviously I am perfect now).

I'm looking forward to watching series 2.

Even though s1 was full of holes and uber-pc it drew me back into something quite nostalgic and I actually felt really sad about Big!

It's so unusual to have the same tv show on screen covering multiple generations (like you OP I was younger than them back in the day and rewatched SATC with a different perspective once 'older' than them). I can't quite get over them being in their 60s though!

Not seen The Carrie Diaries ...does it properly fit in with SATC?

I love her. I loved them all on SATC. Some of the episodes of AJLT have been some of the worst television I have ever watched, but some I have enjoyed. I'll stick with it to see when Aiden comes back, but I am a Carrie and Big fan all the way!

I actually think this second series is an improvement - they've used more humour and used Anthony more - and reigned back a bit of the ridiculous levels of wokeness - still can't stand the Che character though!!

I've always liked Carrie, she's a mess but relatable. I can't stand the way Miranda is in this season, why has she become so pathetic? I'm sticking with it out of loyalty, I do like Seema though.

I've thought them same. I loved her during the original series but then all the Carrie backlash came out and it sort of changed my mind. But watching AJLT I've remembered just how wonderful she is to watch. And it's all down to SJP. In think she's a brilliant actor who makes Carrie charming.

I recently watched all the SATC from start to finish.. again. Everytime i rewatch, i have a different favourite and see different things. Originally Charlotte was my favourite but in my most recent rewatch, i couldnt stand her, mainly in the Trey era. I always saw Miranda as cold but later, super independent and admirable. Carrie pissed me off too much with the cheating and inviting Big to Aidens cabin. Samantha is just the best by far.

AJLT, i dont know why im watching, i feel like i have to but im not enjoying it at all.

As for Big. Back in the day i adored him, i thought he was suave and smooth. Having had my own Mr Big for 17 years. I have love hate, i find myself smiling at him then making myself stop. The episode where he felt ill and told Carrie they should give it a proper go, and by the time he woke up, shw aske how he felt and he said 'like myself again' he went cold, changed his mind and acted like he never said it. Makes me bawl everytime.

When Aleksandr slapped Carrie and Big said 'ill kick his ass' and the way he presses the elevator button has me in stitches without fail.

We've been saying similar on the 'AJLT' thread. Carrie was the annoying one in SATC but is now the best of the lot (along with Seema and Anthony) What has happened to Miranda (personality change) and Charlotte terrible over the top acting and voice sounds odd, possibly because of work done to face.
