What’s the most random thing you are packing in your suitcase for holidays?

I will start, we are about to go on a fly cruise, just packing the cases and for my toddler I am packing a straight vegetable peeler. He likes apples a lot, but doesn’t like the skin so we have to peel it off.
I figured they will most likely have apples on the buffet on board but it feels like a faff to find someone and ask them to peel it for him therefore I have brought a new peeler to pack in his case this morning.

Asked DP to guess what the most random thing we are packing to take with us was and he guessed potatoes close but no 😂

Can anyone beat a peeler?

Me too! Always take a CO and a smoke detector. Especially if staying in AirBnBs / rentals.

This is a good idea.

@Sunshineandrainbow if possible I’ll stick the smoke detector to the ceiling or high up on the wall using a command strip

If I’m only going to be somewhere for a night, I’ll try and get it up as high as possible on a shelf or on top of a wardrobe etc.

I know it’s not perfect but to me it feels better than nothing.

The CO detectors I will usually place one around the bed somewhere, one in the kitchen and one near any gas fire etc.

It’s one of my areas of anxiety definitely! I’m similar at home with my detectors to be fair. I was an impressionable age when that horribly tragic story with the family in Corfu happened.

Thanks for sharing, command strips are a great idea.

I’ve just repacked, without some of the clothes I’d initially packed, so I can fit my full face snorkel in.

Oh I am loving all of these! We are packed just about… I have no clue what suitcase the peeler is in, I am sure I will find it Saturday when I unpack in our cabin 😂😂

@Simonjt Thank you!

Ooo if your going on a cruise get some magnetic hooks! All the walls in your room are magnetic so perfect for hanging swimming costumes in bathroom etc or just having kids east storage space. Get packs of them on Amazon for as little as £5. I swear by them! X

We’ve come to Ibiza to visit my parents.. with robot hoover in the hand luggage! Still this is nothing compared to the time I brought a frozen shoulder of pork for mum to cook Easter lunch. Had to change in Barcelona and lug the lunch through security there too 🤣

When mine when young and we were in cheap caravan holidays I used to take lots of big safety pins to attach random spare blankets, towels etc to improvise black outs as none of them could sleep past 5 am with thin curtains.
Youngest was a restricted eater til he was 19 so always took his 7 permitted acceptable food items overseas in case we couldn’t get the identical versions.
My husband always adds a torch to our packing these days - wherever we are going. We nearly always need it at some point and have the same conversation “ why are you bringing a torch?”
and “ good job you brought the torch”

Tin foil and masking tape is all you need I tell you. It's the future of blackout!

Name changed for this as I have mentioned it in real life.

An axe. We were going on the ferry to France, then driving to Austria. We weren’t sure what fuel supplies would be available for cooking. Of course we got pulled over for a customs/ security check. 😂

As a not too random one this time we took some of the Dr Beckman washer sheets with us - easy to pack and handy to wash things through (machine or hand) if you have a spillage
